What?! This is unexpected. Phew ...

There have been rumours for a while now. It really looks like this is all done now. We'll go back to having 3 000 people at Currie Cup First Division matches. It was good while it lasted though.

Let's wait and see. Nothing is a given.

Just shows how little these players cared about "developing rugby in the EC" in the first place. It was never about that.

Oh please. Ideals, principles and lekker backslaps don't put food on the table. They should've received a 2 or 3 year chance...or none. Stupid ****ing retarded politics.

Can't expect players to be the ones to drive rugby development to be honest. Kind of glad to see Engelbrecht getting a shot in a proper team, though. Dude's like a rampaging bull.

What should have happened is for the Southern Kings to have played in the Currie Cup premier league first. In this way they could have contracted top players for longer and then when SR expands (or the system changes) the Southern Kings will be ready for the big league. I'm not talking EP Kings here.

I cannot understand and appreciate why this route was not taken. It is the longer route but it is far more sustainable and practical. Why did Watson demand/insist on going to the top league immediately?

Money.

The Southern Kings are not a Currie Cup team. They draw their players from three unions in the area (EP Kings, Border, and SWD Eagles).

FWIW SR was a carrot SARU dangled in front of EPRU when they went along with reducing the Premier division from eight to six teams.

But what if the Premier League consisted of the SR franchises? It is for all practical purposes just that. The Kings would then be able to build strength amongst SR teams. It wouldn't be difficult to implement. The lower league can then be for those not represented in the Premier League.

If saru hadn't insisted that the eight become six there's little doubt in my mind that the EP Kings wouldn't have had at least one, if not two, seasons in the Premier division before now anyway.

Kings win 23-18, but are out of Super Rugby.

Yeah, not very convincing from the Lions. They would have expected to win this one comfortably. Kings have been good value this season. Don't really deserve to be out after just a single season. Having said that the Lions have done enough, if only just.
