Ok, so as all peeps know I cancelled my Iburst awhile ago, so I have been using a PDA to access the web that my boyfriends company pays for. However last months account came to over R1000 and that is basically just surfing MyAdsl, I decided let me get the R50 option from Iburst for one month just to get a feel of how long it lasts.

Following that and what I have gone through so far, I decided to show just how "easy" it is to get connected even if you have your own modem :

I'm not stating names because most employees names there I can hardly pronounce, much less spell.

Now first counter measure I took, I chose my account that has just enough money in it to cover the installment and if they decide to take off more, it will be rejected. (been burned before and basically paid for about 3 months when I didn't have any access)

21.11.2007 : Called to find out what is needed to gain access :
***Form to be faxed (downloaded Here)
Copy ID
Proof of Banking details

On form : UTID number of modem

Also asked them how long it will take to have it activated : +/- 2 hours

I couldn't send it yet as I didn't have the UTID number

22.11.2007
+/- 0800 Downloaded form, filled it out & faxed it to the number on the form
I didn't fax the copy ID or banking details as I figured they would have it from when I was with them before
+/- 1200 Called helpdesk to see if they got it. basically conversation went as follows :
me : Did you get the fax
x : no, which number did you fax it to?
me : 086 503 9111
x: that's the wrong number, it would have gone to support department
me : but this is the number reflected on the form
x: no it's not, you must fax it to 086 503 9999
me : that's not the number on the form?
x: yes it is
me : i'm looking at the form....etc. (arguing continued)
me : how long before i am connected?
x: 24-48 Hours
me : yesterday I was told 2 hours?
x : fax it with id and banking details and i'll do it for you by COB
me : but you should have all my details from my previous contract?
x : send it through and i will see if we do
He took my number so he could call me back if there is a problem.

I forgot to take my id this morning, but as i mentioned before I figured they should have it on file. As I am using a different account I did however print a statement of the bankaccount and fax it through with the form

+/- 13.09 I got an e-mail from Shirley (remembered that because I got the e-mail :o and here is a copy of our correspondence :

Hi ******

We don't have your ID document with us because when you first applied for the contract, you applied with one of our resellers- iBurst direct.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback. Won't you have this on file as I have had a month-to-month contract before.

Instant, Fast??? Don't make me laugh.

I will take my copy ID and fax it to the number tomorrow morning and will update this post.

It's just scary to think of the people who want to join them without knowing all the hassles starting with getting connected and ending with billing.

Although I must say I almost fell off my chair when i got her e-mail so fast. I have NEVER had a response from them so fast in the past and 99% of the time not at all:eek:

Edit 1 : only saw the fax number they gave me is also reflected on the form :p sorry Iburst

Edit 2 : Forgot to mention, minimum amount of months you can take is 2 - explanation : you sign up, then have to give a calender month notice, therefore they will take a second month

Update : 23.11.2007
+/- 0800 - Faxed ID
+/- 0810 - sent e-mail to Shirley to confirm receipt
+/- 0811 - out of office message received from Shirley
+/- 0830 - called to find out if the correct person received it. Advised by Jody that Tswanele will only be in at 10:00 and will call me back
+/- 1030 - called for Tswanele, not in office - left message with Jody for Tswanele to call me back
+/- 1200 - called for Tswanele, not at her desk - spoke to lady who answered the phone - told me to log on in 10 minutes should be sorted out
+/- 1245 - Tried logging in - seems to accept username/password - will check tonight at home with iburst modem
+/- 1115 - called for Tswanele, not at desk

Maybe they are desperate for money?

good idea giving them access to a separate bank account - that way they can't leech off more than you have...

...and good luck.

@Xenophon, maybe but even if iburst dropped their prices to half there is no way I'll go back, just the fact they had access to my bank account was stressful enough without having to deal with the rest of the incompetent "team".

Now if the iburst system is taken over by a reputable company I'd probably get iburst again as a backup.

Anyway good luck with your "new" iburst account.

if you sign up at the beginning of the month, you can sign up and send an immediate termination notice for one month's notice. A lot of work yes.

Sorry to go against the grain, but I think it's quite reasonable to ask you to supply your ID document etc again when you re-join. It seems like you could have avoided a whole lot of fuss by just following the instructions on the form (except, of course, the wrong fax number... surely the support dept could just pass on the application forms?)

Not that I'm pro iBurst but you need to also be a bit realistic..

gotta agree with donovan about the ID. I'd be cryingmurder if someone opened an account with iburst on the back of the fact they happen to have a copy of my ID.
