“One child had lost the tips of a few fingers, as well as nail involvement. The attack on the foot of the other child was as severe and agonising. Rats ate right up to the bone in his foot,” Bassin said.

I am beyond outraged at this. Life Esidimeni all over again. No-one accountable or responsible, it's the ANC way. People with cerebral palsy and other special needs are not worth anything to them.
The day's of devoted nursing and care are over with the ANC way. ANC only care for cadres. Person in hospital has no money or clout.......fukkem.

Just another time wasting sick patient to attend to. Nursing staff have better things to do like sleep on duty etc........

They get paid regardless of what happens on their shift..........

No even shocking anymore. Just another day in sunny Africa. Also would be very concerned over the management AND management of the funds before more money is donated. Sad indeed.

Earlier this year there were reports of protests due to sewerage being pumped into the river, garbage not collected, roads unmaintained, water and electricity cuts.

When GroundUp met the children, aged 10 and 11, on Monday, they were using homemade fishing rods, waiting patiently for a fish in order to get food for the day.

"Oom please, give us R5, we want to buy bread because there is no food at home," said Emanuel. He said both his parents were unemployed and for years he had been fishing during school holidays and on weekends, when there was no school meal. "For me it's better to be at school than at home because I am getting food at school everyday," he said.

Not far from him a sewage pipe was pouring dirty water into the river.

"The water is smelly because of the drain. But I wash the fish before I eat it at home," Emanuel said.

Litha Magocoba from Kwepileni in ward 20 said, “We are ratepayers but there is no difference between us and the township people. Our storm water drains and roads are not maintained, but we are charged huge rates. All the roads are full of potholes.”

I am curious, irrespective of whether the residents pay their utility or service bills, don't they have an allocated budget which again must serve them irrespectively? In my view, an audit needs to be done.
Already done , see the AG's report for 2020 (2021 not published), millions upon millions being stolen.

edit: AG's report starts on page 83, after all the BS published by the mayor.

The skills needed to run this country are not there. They take people with school education, some with none at all, and stick them in an office. It's become a friends for pals free-for-all and they just sit there all day earning salaries and painting their nails or out and about during the day abusing their position to spend millions of rand on spades and napkins contracts to make a buck on the side. These municipalities have become a den of free loading opportunists. It's a cesspit and the problem starts right at the top.

If only it would be addressed... This government has gone beyond their self-mandate of affirming class suicide, they are leeching off every person.
Indeed. Also interesting that the then mayor (2020) Bandile Ketelo was one of those ANC cadres that were detained, beaten and tortured at camp Quadro for 4 years without trial.

No honour amongst thieves.

In the early 2000s my dad worked for dept of health and even back then the nurses used to unplug the incubators in winter so they could plug in their personal heaters. Babies were dying and nobody gave a fk. I can't even imagine what it's like now.
