All banks reward systems ultimately become a battle between customer experience and the number crunchers, number crunchers know nothing about customer experience and stickiness and don’t value it because it is hard to put an ROI on. So they gradually erode the value, because they think they are giving away free money, and don’t understand the impact on customer retention. At a point the erosion means the reward system has no tangible benefit for the consumer. eBucks used to be a differentiator for FNB, but it’s rapidly becoming another meaningless bullet point.
Fully agree. The value's in how people are ranting and raving to get others onto the system even though it offers no overall benefit to others. That value is hard to put into numbers so as FNB keeps on eroding the value those ranters and ravers will get less and less. It's sad but companies always underestimate the value of power consumers so keep shifting them to the side.

I'm in the process of moving from FNB, so this is just another nail in the coffin. I do a LOT of office and home shopping at Makro.

Knee jerk reaction? First Dis-Chem, then Incredible Connection, now Makro. They also cut SLOW lounge benefits 2 months or so ago.
Dischem is now with uCount (Standard Bank).

With all these ebucks changes there's little reason to move to FNB anymore. It was the one thing that differentiated them & everyone wanted.

It's like Cadbury chocolates, they're eroding your benefits without lowering the cost to you, so in the end nothing's changed for them but you as their client will sit with less chocolate.

Bliksem this was an eye-opener this morning.

I used to use the Avis point 2 point all the time while travelling for work -- was much easier to have them pick me up and take me to/from the airport than getting the family to do it.

And while I wasn't too concerned about the Makro part (I buy very little at Makro) it was an eye-opener to learn about Dischem. Used to love those 30, 40% discount vouchers (although it has been many years since one of those came out).

Yeah, generally can't say I'm that impressed with FNB these days. The push to app-only banking (like removing emailed statements), eBucks benefits eroding, other benefits eroding and their heavy marketing push to use their own services for everything. A lady was phoning me multiple times a day just to get me to buy credit card debit insurance!

Takealot, please don't drop eBucks too!

Ebucks is not dead, you just have to wait for better 40% off deals other spend at takealot at face value.

I overall do get more ebucks, because of smart spend.

It's just becoming less attractive, ebucks was huge benefit to me and the rewards made it well... rewarding. Not so much anymore, thinking of moving over to Capitec, although sometimes the length of the ques makes me nervous, and Capitec ATMs aren't as easy to find.

Withdraw cash at pick and pay or checkers. Capitec only 2 atm's at branch and normally 1 is out order.

It cost the same basically to get cash from any other atm with capitec.

Any ATM is a Capitec ATM for just R1 more...

If Takealot is no longer part of eBucks then I wouldn't see any benefit in eBucks, as I tend to spend my eBucks on buying me something worthwhile like a dishwasher, console, etc.

Currently saving up my ebucks to buy me a TV is next, so with Makro gone this only leaves Takealot as a good place to spend my ebucks.

All of those items are available on the eBucks shop.

For those who have their eyes on some Makro Black Friday specials but want to use their eBucks instead.

The only way to spend eBucks at Makro from next month onward would be to buy vouchers as they will remain valid for three years from date of purchase.

Also the ebucks store used to have great vouchers at 40% and all kinds of items and things. And you could click on one link to get to them.

Now you are very lucky if you find something at 40% off. The shop has been so neglected this year. In fact eBucks were neglected this year and got substantially worse.

Still, bought my Series X with eBucks so it's still worthwhile.
