Ecommerce restrictions are a mistake - Online stores

South Africa's COVID-19 alert level will be reduced to level 4 on 1 May, which means some restrictions that have applied during the lockdown will be relaxed.

Online stores, however, will only be able to sell a slightly extended list of essential products, despite their relatively low-risk operations and mode of delivery.
 
Yes it is retarded, just had an email conversation with my overseas supplier. She said business has been booming for them in the last few months, she was shocked to hear that my T/O for the last 5 weeks was R0.000000

I just had a quick rush of orders just before the lock down, but those did not make up for the 5 weeks following.

I know if I were allowed to courier things. Business would have been normal if not better

I chose life over the economy even if it means living under the rock after this is done. These things must be controlled and we cannot recklessly open the entire economy and allow everyone to roam free. The price will be very heavy. Those who cannot make it with less or almost nothing are very worried...

Living under a rock is not a possibility in a modern society. Do you expect 60 million people to suddenly become self sustaining? A collapsed economy in South Africa will lead to mass starvation that will dwarf covid. We have an example right next door to us, why is everyone so blase about this?
 
Government has shown their true level of incompetence, yet again.

Instead of solving existing problems, such as transportation, housing and poor living conditions, they use every opportunity to create new problems.

E-commerce has significantly expanded in the rest of the world right now, the benefits are huge and well known to everybody outside the South African government:
- keeping many businesses alive, that would have otherwise closed down resulting in job losses
- allowing consumers to have relatively normal life while locked down in their homes, being able to order cooked food, equipment for their home office / remote work etc.
- saving lives, elderly people and people at high risk do not have to take the risk of going to the shops to buy food, medicine etc. if they can buy everything online and have it delivered in a contact-less manner.

The only argument for shutting down e-commerce is the complete failure of the government to put together meaningful rules in place, such as delivery drivers PPE equipment requirements, packaging requirements, contact-less deliveries including enforcing cashless payments etc.
 
Once again the sale of books is not allowed by a totally illiterate government
