eCommerce websites shut down uncertainty - SACamera, 5rooms, Kinderelo and Style36

Naspers clearly don't like operating in markets where they've got a bit of viable competition. Orms kicked SACamera's arse 6-love.

Horrible timing if staff has been placed on notice and is not somehow re-absorbed into Naspers. Running online retail is tough, margins are low and various legislation requires some very good operational management to keep your head above water.

I have an outstanding order for a R15k telescope at SACamera, they're waiting for stock to arrive, they better not try take my money and run! Lucky I paid with Credit Card.

Running HONEST online retail is tough. My competition who import from China, get their invoices modified so they false declare here and thus pay no duties and very low vat, drives me nuts!

Importing into SA would be good for the economy, probably even better than our exports, but SARS/Customs are very slack and lose billions in tax to white collar fraud.

Would be a pity if they did shut down - I actually really liked 5Rooms.

They have been hiring… and some have been leaving…

Not sure, but I think the 4 websites in mention are pretty much run by the very same teams.

Perhaps they are renegotiating their distribution channels, which may entail very much.

http://www.kinderelo.co.za/
looks like it is back up
scratch that, down again

was trying to get more on the about us and what not - Naspers structure really is bizarre and irrational. MWEB is part of "pay TV" despite the company having an "Internet" super division (which consists of holdings of various website businesses in essence) and 24.com is part of "Print Media"

Only one I knew about was SACamera, and their prices were not really good. Orms beat them on every price, and service at Orms is awesome!

Duh?

I've never so much as heard about any of these sites.

Looking at kinderelo, I think what happened there is that the kid dribbled on the server...
