There are lots of complaints about the educational system not producing enough technology orientated employees.

The youngsters we employ do not know the concept and relationship of milli-, centi-, deci (meter) etc.

It takes ages to explain and drill it into them, and even then it remains a foreign animal to most of them which they don't like.

I remember being taught the rhyme in primary school and doing pages of exercises converting 3,237 m to millimeters etc.

When I questioned the youngsters, they told me they never did this during school.

The question is why not?

This is a basic concept anybody needs to master to function in a technology driven environment.

Well wanted to enroll my son in an 3 YEAR college "IT" course. During discussions and after some meetings I asked WHEN will they be taught programming languages and principles of computers! The answer was that that would be external as it depends at which company will take you up after completion of the course. They were promised that successful students will have a job in one of these "listed" companies! Did not enroll him there of course!
