No because because the city is run by a bunch of racial nationalists who don't believe in the concept of private property. They will simply allow criminals to loot the place.

How about this:
Take one of those expropriated properties and build a nice new metro police station for the area on top of it. Then use your new police station to make the area safe enough for people to want to invest their money there. The amount of social good a thriving industrial district can do for the area is worth far more than a paltry 3000 houses.

Land was promised. Do not come here with smart ideas to build an economy.

This is similar to one of the methods used to transform the Republic of Georgia from one of the highest crime countries in the world into one of the lowest crime countries. Number of murders in Georgia per year now down to a total of 36 for the year of 2016. There are now fewer murders in one year in Georgia than there are in one day in SA. In their case they used asset forfeiture to turn properties seized from criminals into police stations.

Where do the assets seized from criminals via SA's asset forfeiture unit actually end up in SA?

Brilliant.

Step 1: Hijack factory and kick out its lawful occupants. Don't enforce the law or anything.
Step 2: Factory goes to $hit. Owners are not allowed to evict squatters because of stupid eviction laws.
Step 3: No point in owner paying for electricity, water and rates for a property they cannot use.
Step 4: City can now expropriate property without compensation.
Step 5: Screech about the failure of capitalism to create jobs whilst you expropriate factories.

Yes it could happen like that but believe it or not its in the cities interest that factories continue to operate and pay rates. Also for the rates to be higher than the property value it will take some time.

I'm not saying it didn't happen but its not as easy as you are laying it out.

Because a police station is a money sink, houses have the potential to earn rates and taxes.

More police stations would be awesome though (With police as well :p)

Mashaba will develop low-cost housing, only to later value the properties at R10k/sqm in order to collect higher rates & taxes.

Keep in mind:

"Let them make automatic firearms restricted. Nobody needs them anyway, and nobody has them." (think how problematic our firearm laws are now)

"Let them make drugs they don't agree with illegal. It's not like people need heroin or cocaine." (think others, like marijuana)

"Let them start controlling the bad schools. It's not like those schools are good for anything anyway, so it's fine." (think how they want to start controlling homeschooling now)

They don't come full force, guys. That's not how politicians work. They start with something small and generally acceptable, then they toe the line until your back is against the wall and you have nothing left. Government taking private property is always a bad thing, no matter how useless that property is.

The EFF are celebrating the outcomes of a process they don't understand, just like they celebrate communism.

Yes, this is an entirely capitalist endeavour, thinly veiled as Socialist... I suppose that is what the EFF are.

I don't see your slippery slope logic at all.

Also private enterprise is just another form of government (look at the US)
