eHomeAffairs - getting it to work for you

Got my passport this last Friday, and applied on the 2nd of June and got a booking for 19th of June. All in all, very happy with the service at STD Bank Killarney, was there for 10mins max counting both biometrics and collection.

Hi all,

I was trying to renew my passport and was struggling to pay with Nedbank prior to making a booking online, the following solved the issue for me:

Bank Profile Number: Use the profile number you can find from your profile on the Nedbank online banking portal

Bank User ID: This must be either 1 or 01 (??????????????? don't ask why). I used 1 and it reflected immedietely under government payments in Nedbank's online banking portal. The lady I spoke to at Nedbank told me to use 01 if 1 didn't work.

Hope this helps someone else running the gauntlet that is Home Affairs

thank you so much for sharing, I was losing my mind!

Hey
I am experiencing the exact same issue. What did you do to resolve this?
If you're able to make a booking it shouldn't be a problem. The system will not be able to process a booking without payment. If it's not allowing you to make a booking(you select a booking date and time and when you try to book it, it doesnt allow) and payment has been deducted from your account, then you should contact the home affairs call centre on 080 060 1190.

If you require assistance with getting a booking slot, please WhatsApp M&W Licensing on 083 597 5333.

PS: if it says no booking slot available that just means all slots available are booked.

I booked an appointment for the 1st at Centurion Branch and did my application in 2 hours.

I received the collection SMS yesterday afternoon.

Went to collect this morning. Was there for about 30 minutes and was out. The 30 minutes was spent waiting outside to be let in for about 20 minutes.

Not a a bad experience imho. All the stories about sitting there all day for both applications and collections are unfounded in my experience.

Those stories are absolutely true when it comes to applying and collecting at actual Home Affairs branches, not so much for the bank branches.

If you make an appointment via BABS you will be quicker than no appointment.

Hello,

I am trying to apply for a new passport on the eHome Affairs site and do not have access to all the passport options. I can only choose the Maxi Adult Tourist Passport and Crew Member Certificate. The following message appears on the page :

Passport application cannot be captured - Applicant has an open Adult Tourist Passport Application on the old system

I have previous applications that have been rejected and I cannot delete or edit them.

How do I resolve this issue?

You either have to call their helpline and ask them to remove the open application, or go in person to a Home Affairs branch and get them to do it there.

You would probably need to go into a branch to get them to remove/close the previous applications

This happened to my father in law a few months back. It was due to a system migration many years ago. I assume your old passport would been done before that and wasn't migrated to the new system properly.

We had to go to a branch for my FIL, they (HA) contacted the branch that processed the old passport and they had to close it on their system manually. We had to go multiple times because each time it was one or the other system that was offline. The stars aligned for us on visit number 3, where both branches were online and weren't on lunch.

If you lucky enough to be doing it as the same branch that the old one was done then you'll probably have less hassles.

If I take a authorisation letter from my wife will I be able to collect her passport on her behalf?

Call Home Affairs Customer Service - they will check on the system what the issue is.

Most likely that the last time you applied for a passport and collected it from Home Affairs, that they didn't make the application as closed.

If it is the above issue, Customer Service will let you know which Home Affairs the issue is at (which, in the situation above, will be the Home Affairs that you collected your previous passport from). Ask Customer Service for the phone number of the Home Affairs, try call them and explain the situation - they should then be able to close your "open" application, and in 10min, you'll be able to do the online application.

Applying for new passport (expires under 6 months).

Is this section standard on the form?
