Aids is not so much an issue here but pregnancies are, I can take a walk on my lunch and will see at least 2 pregnant girls no more than 14yrs old so yeh I guess its a geographically formed mindset really.

HIV/AIDS is a serious issue everywhere. It's less of an issue over there in the UK, but it's still a serious issue as HIV/AIDS is an incurable and ultimately fatal disease - as you may know. I disagree.

I do agree that young girls should not be having sex. I guess it mostly comes down to education by the parents and if they fail, by the system - schools, church, TV, radio, internet, youth magazines, pop culture etc.

Young boys should also not be having.

It's all wishful thinking anyway. I think it all depends on how well the kid is educated and her self image. If a girl has a lot to offer, she won't feel that she needs to sleep with guys to be liked. At the same time better educated teens should be brought up to see through the BS that young boys promulgate. This is easier in higher socio-economic settings.

I agree with you 100% PeterCH, at 13/14/15, perhaps even older, kids just don't have the maturity to be making such big, possibly life altering, decisions.
Nor do I believe that a girl is entitled to making these decisions sooner than a boy.
Trouble is, where do you draw the line? As you said, it boils down to each individual and their up-bringing, morals, values, and their opinions of themselves, etc...
I know people, well into their 20's who haven't had sex - because they haven't found someone they feel comfortable doing it with, because they want to be married first, a whole host of reasons... But at the same token, I was in primary school in 1994 and I knew a 12yr old who was pregnant.

I guess in the end, it's up to the parent's to ensure that they instil the right values in their children
