Election candidates warned about exploiting personal information of South African voters
The Information Regulator of South Africa has published a guidance note on how political parties and individual candidates are to use voters' personal information for campaigning purposes in the lead-up to the 2024 elections.

This is an update to the 2019 national and provincial elections guidance note. Its new guidance features regulations concerning artificial intelligence (AI), as well as misinformation and disinformation used by political campaigns.

Where was the information regulator of south africa when when we had to provide every single detail about ourselves ever time you enter a shop or whatever during covid-19 lockdown?

People willingly submit their personal details to political parties, either online or at their gazebo's, under the guise of "checking your voting registration". They willing share personal information about their friends and relatives at the same time

Now they complain?

I straight up didn't sign that register and carried my own hand sanitiser. Got turned away from the larger stores but no issue with local small shops then

Only one sending me SMSes is the DA.

no, I didn't give them any information but once I told DA I voted for them, then they had phoned me to vote for them every single election for the past 15 years. this year I told them, if you phone me again, I won't vote for them anymore, then after, they don't phone me anymore. :p
