Election results: South African May 2024

So much 'analysis' on these results.

The TLDR is the ANC lost a lot of votes to the MK. Everything else is flat or negligible.
Yes it is good that ANC is losing votes and hopefully this is a wake up call for them to actually pull up their socks or be replaced.

On the negative side, the only noteworthy difference this election was along ancient tribal lines. The Zulus left the ANC to to follow their leader. Despite the DA's proven good track record or the EFF's best-in-class campaigning it all was for nothing. South Africa is still primitive and it doesn't seem to be changing.
 
Anything else than an ANC + DA GNU will simply result in a breakdown of the country. First a breakdown, then a teardown, as populism will take hold and snowball. The rand will tank.

ANC + EFF coalitions were proven as disastrous where they were in place. Anything where Zuma is involved, has been proven to land up in Dubai (or whoever would be willing to line his pockets the most). These are not theories, they showed us their true colors already.

Fun times ahead.

I reckon ANC + DA could be a thing. Did anyone see Helen with the Gwede and co yesterday? Political opponents but clearly big friends.

Yes it is not ideal but both are not 'extreme' and have some experience in running a country. Hopefully the DA could replace some of the useless ANC deadweight (there is a lot).

EFF or MK would drive this country into the ground.

I think any rational person would. I think it’s very likely to happen to.

I honestly don’t believe we will see MK or EFF. In national government.

Would be nice if we can get DA ministers in police and home affairs and maybe transport. That would be a major win to start with.
 
On the discrepancies, I hope every VD result slip was scanned and sent through to IEC so that they have a solid evidence that has some integrity, if they just relied on parties signing the slips and then taking those through they are going to have a hard time proving the credibility of the captured results, especially since they have already lost some ballots.

DA has done better by quite a distance in all Gauteng municipalities in 2024 compared to 2019 except, strangely enough, Johannesburg. Some of the changes are large, like in Emufeni (18_->27.6), Mogale City (26-->33). Despite some predictions on here that the DA would be 'punished' in Tshwane, their provincial vote is currently 31.1 compared to 29.5 in 2019.
