Electric Fence issue - Alarm light flashing constantly

it obviously isn't a clean or obvious break though
It usually isn't obvious at all, especially when the linking wires( the black HT leads) have corroded internally.
Electric fences are the most frustrating and time consuming things to repair, I refuse to have one at my place.

Yeah i am more for other security measures first, but it is all about layers

We have a Merlin 4 energizer and the battery was replaced 6 months ago. An hour after today's loadshedding started, the fence alarm went off. When I got there an hour after that and stopped the alarm, the service light was flashing, as if the battery was flat.

The power has been back for 3 hours and the service light is still going, so does that mean our battery is dead?

Not sure of the model, but you probably need to reset the energizer to cancel the alarm. Ours uses a magnetic switch.

Thanks, I've switched off the mains and the fence still works, so I'm guessing it needs a reset. Just have to locate the magnetic tag. There's a remote control "switch" wired into the bottom of the energizer, which I have no idea what for.

Any ideas?

Any magnet will work, does not have to be the pretty one.
Is that remote not perhaps for your alarm system? Like a panic button for the fence.

I've tried holding a magnet to the symbol on panel (in the pic), with no beep, light or any response. The service light on the keypad is still flashing.

Tried swiping from both left and right, no dice. So I guess I'll be opening the cover next, to check the fuses?

Check the fuses for sure, perhaps the cover is not on nicely?
I still suspect the battery though, some of the batteries I have bought recently have not been so good, you can actually feel the weight difference between them and a proper battery.

Thread Necro again.

It had to happen today!!

Going away in two days, so I thought I would check to see if the Nemtek Wizord 4 Battery was good. I have a blu nova lithium battery in there and it's been installed for over a year now. The mains power to the energizer is behind a smart switch so I can turn off mains power to the energizer, to let the battery discharge every now and then. I have an automation in my home assistant that will turn on the power again in an hour if I turn the switch off.

Today, I decide to turn off the mains power as mentioned earlier. The energizer was still energizing the fence off the battery. All good. I also used the opportunity to check the fence and everything was good. I didn't touch anything.

Upon power returning to the energizer, the alarm condition triggered. I couldn't reset it. I checked the battery voltage which is at 13.7v, turn off all power, etc. If I put the battery in (without mains power), the energizer works and the fence is being powered. I can see the little light I have between two wires flashing as usual. However, as soon as power is given to the energizer, the alarm light goes and beeps. The power light is solid green meaning the fuse I guess is ok?

Oh and I also changed the battery with a normal lead acid battery. Same issue.

Any ideas of what could be wrong? Hoping the energizer is not borked cos I am away for 3 weeks and the fence is my most important line of defense. Don't know if I can get anyone tomorrow to check it out.

Thanks

No idea what is wrong but since it can work on battery, all you need to do is keep the battery charged until you return to sort it out, if you cannot find someone at short notice.

Maybe an intelligent charger or 14V DC adapter across the battery terminals.

Looks like that's what I am going to have to do - find a charger. Thanks for the confirmation that a viable option. I was thinking that too.

Hoping builders or Leroy are open tomorrow morning

The laptop charger with variable voltage settings can also work, so check the Chinese electronics shops as well.

Probably some kind of fault on the motherboard.

Yup - it looks like the charging/power circuitry has become dodge.

All the fuses are fine. All cabling going to the fence from the energiser is tight.

When Eskom power is applied to it, it can't seem to deal with something, it alarms and the fence LED stays only the bottom one (BAD). Strangely, if I look at the fence itself , the fence seems to be receiving power as that thing mounted between the two wires, is actually flashing showing it's receiving juice.

When the eskom power is removed, and the fence energised, the Fence LEDs on Energiser go up to LED 4 and not LED 5 (Good). I however think it's been at 4 for a while. I can see the energiser working when I drive into garage as it is mounted high up in the garage in a corner and I just thought I could not see the LED 5 (green) because of how bright it has been. Normally never go in at night.

A friend told me I should pop by Regal tomorrow to buy the charger @TheChamp had proposed using his account. He says it would be even better just buy a new energiser and install it. as the charger and battery could end up costing a bit by themsevles. Will check pricing and then decide on the option.

Was charging pretty well and constantly until I decided to turn it off this morning . Eish!!

Had a similar problem, was the charger and oddly I had it fixed at Regal in Centurion. R1750 was about a year ago.
