Affordability. Sure people buy R1m cars, but the average car is a 2010 model something worth R80k at best.

And pushing the green angle on electric cars in SA is completely stupid. Why do we even need them.

Because maybe one day I can use my own solar panels to charge my car instead of paying R40/l for petrol because there is some war raging a million miles away.
Your panels and batteries will need to be replaced, as will car parts. Where do the raw materials come from for that?

We have electric trains.
Just need some electric buses.

And competent government.

And comrades who don’t break, steal, burn and loot.

A steady supply of electricity would be nice, for a start..

If that works for you great. But there no good argument to think that would become the norm.

This should have been a very short article:
What needs to happen? A different government that excels at fixing stuff.

Same place where current cars gets the raw materials from .

I'm no greeny . Paying 48% fuel tax in RSA pissed me off because it doesn't get used in a way where I get any benefit.

With my own solar I don't have hand over my hard earned money to a corrupt government

China?

You pay tax on your solar as well.
And it doesn't last forever.

Death and taxes...
