Electricity price battle in South Africa

Johannesburg's City Power stands accused of "unthinkable" and "irrational" behaviour for charging over 80% more than Eskom's rates for electricity to businesses.

The city's power tariffs are being used as an example in a court application challenging the National Energy Regulator of South Africa's (Nersa) methodology for calculating municipal power tariffs, Sunday newspaper Rapport reports.

About time! The price in Pretoria is just as insane compared to the Eskom tariff.

The next guys they need to nail are these prepaid unipin providers with their 8% vending fee bs!
Why should one be penalised just because you are on prepaid?

The tariff as stated by City of Cape Town, is most definitely incorrect! Besides the fact that pay for your electricity wherever you buy it, you are charged for an electricity fee on a monthly basis as well on your municipality bill.

Our townhouse complex is seen as a business by Mangaung Metro, so we pay business rates for electricity. During Winter we pay R4.54 per kWh during peak times.
