Elon Musk cuts Twitter employee benefits as he warns of bankruptcy

Elon Musk, in his first address to Twitter Inc. employees since purchasing the company for $44 billion, said that bankruptcy was a possibility if it doesn’t start generating more cash, according to people familiar with the matter.

The warning came amid a tumultuous start to Musk’s reign at the social media company — a two-week period in which he has fired half of Twitter’s staff, ushered out most of the top executives and ordered the remaining employees to stop working from home.

The unfortunate truth is that for many people it is. Not everyone has the discipline to perform and my organisation pretty much proved that.
Sounds like management was not supporting remote workers. Management support and implementing process for such goes a long way.

That said I have worked remote with a few slackers. There contracts were not renewed.

It's definitely on a case-by-case basis depending on the person and function. In our organization too, some people just took the p*ss while other departments rolled on without an issue,

Hmm, feel Twitter may have been a better platform prior to his purchase...

This guy's a joke.

"Employees should brace for 80-hour work weeks."

No thanks I'll just leave.

“If you don’t want to come, resignation accepted,”

Oh well we already covered that above, but yeah definitely I'll just leave.
I think that's kind of what he wants. He will be left with the hard core workaholics.

There's a nice article about batteries on MyBB today - so an analogy - the general employee is probably a lead acid battery - it does the job well, but has real limitations and if pushed too hard, too often it stops working. The workaholics are more like lithium batteries, strong, dependable and can be pushed to the limits for years before they go on their own way - however every now and again they get overcharged and then explode and take half the building (the other workaholics they work with everyday and have formed strong bonds with) with them and you're left with nothing. There are many examples in Silicon Valley. Its usually advisable to have a mix.
