But why? It can still be installed on a Mac or another Apple Product thru the PKG file?
You really think your average Joe is going to manually install apps? It would continue working for people who have it installed already but most people wouldn't bother installing if it wasn't available on the app store.

Musk and Cook are both hypocrites, but it is beyond bizarre for the CEO of an unprofitable business to be trolling potential customers / investors.

If were Cook, I would consider Musk to be an unreliable business partner.
Musk has already shown that Twitter usage is at an all time high, so there's also that. A great opportunity for smaller fries needing to advertise.

With all the dodgy phones I get these days, i thought it was becoming more prevalent to just go to the site and get whatever they recommend

That's why @konfab made a good point. The PWA version of Twitter is basically done.

Chromium based browsers already allow sites to be "installed" as PWAs.

Twitter would still lose users, of course. However, a lot of users, if told, can use the option and use Twitter near-identical to the native app again.

They use it as their Twitter Lite app they offer on the Play Store.

It'd help quite a lot to mitigate the app being removed.

I assume Chromium browsers on Apple can do this?

If not, the site still works extremely well as a normal mobile page.

Free speech Musk is upset that Apple chooses to spend its money elsewhere....
The salient point right here. Elon is so dense he doesn't even see how confused this tweet is.

lolz at all the twitter replies from iphone saying twitter should be kicked from the app store.

It's going to stop working because it would need an update also.

I'm specifically talking about iPhones here. It's a different kind of user.

You assume wrong, as all browsers on iOS use WebKit, one thing we can all agree is dumb AF.

Sadly they do still have their own safari browser as well, not just webkit.

I have no issues with Safari, it's my daily along with FF. But I don't agree with Apple on forcing browsers on iOS to use WK, it's purely because they don't want PWAs to compete with native apps.

It's about time apple gets an independent app store
Not that I understand the life of me why and idiot would by Apple. But Twitter does need to support idiots, it's the biggest market after all.

Only Safari allows proper PWA, because Apple doesn't want any competition.

Usage does not equal revenue. That has been Twitter's long time problem.

Also, Musk tried to escape his Twitter purchase by alleging that it is filled with bots. I'm not sure Musk has solved that problem either.
