Elon Musk wants Twitter edit button to be free

Twitter's new boss Elon Musk wants to make the ability to edit tweets free for all its users, Platformer's Casey Newton reports.

Newton has learnt that this is one of the other significant changes the "Chief Twit" has demanded staff make to the social media platform's functionalities.

Here's hoping he gets round to all the other problems.. that of bots, upvote/retweet farms and scammers.

I don’t believe bots are all too easily addressed. Bots are a problem all over, and not all bots are automated either; some ‘bots’ are real people with alt accounts.

API improvements can be made, but combating bots could come at a price being too restrictive. Paid subs help, since nobody is going to sub mass deployed bots, but I have bots which have paid subs on social networks.

Bots, cheaters… an ever elusive and growing problem.

Scammers and spammers can be moderated and reported, but it is a manual process, and spam can be detected though it is still a mission to inspect whether it is actual spam. Algorithms need to be updated all the time, and incorporating AI still needs models which also need to be updated.

All in all, I do hope that Twitter can best mitigate the issue.

I think the lack of an edit button is one of the charms of the platform. I mean you could always delete your tweet. Someone is likely to screen print your tweet before you edit or delete so no difference really.
