Email attachment overhead

I just noticed that a blank email (possibly in html format) with an 18KB attachment shows as giving a size of 171KB in Outlook (sent from Thunderbird). That’s quite some overhead isn’t it?

A good chunk will be caused by MIME encoding....170kb does seem a bit hectic though.

It should be about 1.3x the size

All attachements are UUencoded so that the email only uses printable ascii characters (7-bit / 128 chars).

Dunno why cause 7-bit is like so 60's....
