Email over GPRS

Hi,

I've got an email account with Tiscali (MWEB). I connect to the internet using 3G/GPRS using a bluetooth connection between phone and pc. I'm able to receive but not send mail. I've tried authenticating using my tiscali details on the smtp server but it still does not work. I get a message saying that my email address is incorrect. The email I use (maybe alias?) is different to my login name for the tiscali dial-up connection. I tried setting both the same (i.e. the email address to the dial-up login name) but it still did not work. Any help would be most appreciated.

Also, which is the best (least traffic generally) APN to use? I currently use "internet".

You could also specify that your outbound SMTP server must use authentication

IC, Thanks for that tip. Have now got my N70 to send Emails as well. Stillhave some problems with Vlive and Video calls, but working on it. Do you know if I can use the N70 as modem via Bluetooth for 3 G access?

Hi Tony, The setup is straight forward. Install the bluetooth device, then install the Nokia PC Suite software. The first time you run PC Suite you will have to configure connections, you can configure it to use bluetooth or USB. Mine was pretty easy with no problems.

I didn't bother with the Nokia PC Suite, you don't really need it. All you need to do is install your bluetooth device and the correct drivers first, then download the driver for your specific Nokia Phone and toy around a bit with your settings. (Download the driver to your desktop, then right click on it and select install... )

I'm not sure this will apply to you but be sure to max out your connection between your Bluetooth Device and your phone. You can do this in the Properties of your connection dialog box, in the General Tab, by clicking on your bluetooth modem and hitting the configure button - Correct me if I am wrong... It seems to max out at 921600 bytes per second or 900 KB/S.

Anybody know if this can be overridden somewhere else?

Why would you want it to be faster, 3G is only 384kb/s anyway?
