has anyone been finding that when using the wbs smtp server mails arent always getting to the intended recipients? it's happened to me now with most of my friends overseas.

i actually have to use webmail for my non-wbs email addresses? is there a way around this? cuz it's annoying me now...

Yep, I've had that a lot lately, but this week it has happened with a bunch of important business emails - they just don't arrive at the destination...a way around it...well if WBS allowed customers to use 3rd party smtp servers...but WBS have dictated that they do not want that...

The only way around that, which I know of, is to implement SPF for your domain - requires adding an SPF record to your DNS zone file - the only hitch is that very few domain registrars / hosting companies actually support SPF...I have run into this problem with 2 of the domains that I run - the only option is to transfer the domains to a registrar / hosting company that supports SPF...

i found out one can get wbs to open your account so you can use your own smtp servers... which is kinda cool... will do this on monday and let you know if it works

Got my serivce provider to open an alternate port on the mailserver. I could have done port translation on my router but I simply made the changes in my e-mail client and so I resolved the problem

Good luck with that- any response from them could be considered a miracle

I have also experienced my mail ending up in a recipient's junk box. Very annoying, and potentially damaging. This SMTP restriction is Stupid with a capital "S". Let us know how you fare, halicon.

I have had huge problems over the last 2 weeks with emails not being able to be sent via the WBS smtp server. Have spoken to various people at the "helpdesk" with no luck. Today I called them and said I was returning to my old (and very reliable) server - put in in the new details and it works like a dream again. Try it and see - they seem to have removed the block. No more WBS server for me!!!

Marcus is saying/alleging that WBS have reversed their decision to block access to 3rd party smtp servers...

However, those that do not use 3rd party smtp servers, and therefore use smtp.wbs.co.za, are still stuck with WBS' unreliable server not delivering their emails...

If seen this mentioned in an article (about the influence / pressure of MyADSL :) ) recently, but haven't given it much notice at the time and haven't tested yet.
