I am coming back to my good old SA forum for advice cos I think I am going crazy.

I have a couple of gmail email addresses, one in particular is my main email address. I download emails to outlook on my laptop and when away from home, access email via either my smartphone of via gmail.com online

I have office 365 installed and am paying monthly and have been for almost 2 years.

A couple of months ago I got an invitation to upload office 2016 as part of my office 365 package, which I did and have had no problems.

PROBLEM
During the course of today, I was using gmail at work to send emails backwards and forwards. In on particular thread, there were about 8 emails both ways.

When I opened up my laptop and opened outlook at about 7.30pm UK time, as is normal, all these emails were downloaded onto my outlook and I continued the correspondence.

All of a sudden a message popped up saying that my trial of office 2016 had ended and that I needed to buy. I was still investigating this when my outlook stopped working and I got that little message to say they were trying to restart it. Outlook did restart.

But.... all my email correspondence between 2.30 and 8pm this evening had disappeared. So I went into gmail and everything has gone... there is nothing in my gmail inbox at all.

First call was to microsoft chat online and the technician asked if she could have a look remotely and said she thought it was because my gmail to outlook was "pop" enabled and not "imap. She changed my settings and opened outlook again and pressed send and receive.

I now have 10 000 odd emails in m inbox as it has downloaded right back to 2008.

But ... for some reason the missing emails between the 2pm to 8pm period just simply seem to have disappeared.

According to the microsoft support, this looks as if it is a google problem and I need to contact google for advice.

I can find loads of forums but do not seem to be able to find emails of telephone numbers form google UK

Hoping someone here can help me?

Maybe POP deleted/removed those particular mails from the server when you experienced the crash. If by any chance the PST file is still sitting somewhere on your PC you could try re-attach it to Outlook and check for the missing items. On modern OSs & Office versions the pst files usually sit in Documents/Outlook Files folder, check is there is anything there to start with

Yes strange that you didn't have gmail set up via IMAP because it syncs both ways unlike POP and you are a lot less prone to losing mails.

I concur with the above. Look for the mails in the pst file residing here C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Then if you need to use gmail offline install this https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gmail-offline/ejidjjhkpiempkbhmpbfngldlkglhimk?hl=en

Or if you really want to use Outlook then set gmail up as IMAP.
