IMO it is not the end.
Console and PC is not the same. I for one will never give up my PC for console gaming or the console for PC gaming.
Like antowan said, I also believe it serves different genres, and although some may reach into another's space there will always be demand for either or.

Agreed. Some games just need so much more keys than what the game controllers can supply. Then there's always the techno war raging with new technologies that makes that very fast good looking console that comes out every third year or so, look like a dinosaur after six months.

But the controller shouldnt be a problem for long with xbox360 getting a keyboard if the rumour is true

looking at the recent titles i m sure gaming on a pc is nearing to an end ... publishers/game studios are concentrating their efforts on the consoles and this can be seen by all the buggy titles coming onto the pc market ...

i mean for me to be getting 12FPS in NWN2 is ridiculous!
gothic 3 is filled with graphical anomalies
need for speed carbon has an issue with nvidia cards apparently
splinter cell double agent crashes every so often ...

was considering the 8800gtx gpu ... but think i will now rather get myself an x360, ps3 or wii ... i did not hear of a buggy game on a console ... it is easier for developers to just code for a x360 than for a pc (considering there are so many varying configurations out there)

Guys he makes a valid argument here, I mean his reasoning is sound, he has done all the correct scientific calculations, I am even disspointed in my self for not seeing his perfect logic sooner.

Obviously PC gaming is going to end because NWN2 doesn't run nicely on his computer! I mean the signs are all there guys.

Lol.

You know what it is? Console envy. Everyone wants new toys. All the PC boys see shiny new consoles and want to buy them but are trying to justify (or not, either way) buying one.

Simple. If you're PC can do everything a PS3 or 360 can do, fine, go buy a Wii, 'cuz it sure as hell can't do that . . . .

i quote many console users "i dont want a pc cos it is too expensive, you know upgrading all the time"

Now when you buy a decent mid range pc, you can play basicly all the games with OK gfx?

2 years from now you upgrade that pc and you can play all the games at OK gfx?
and the games are cheaper than console's

If you buy a console you pay for it and pay R600 for a game.
Now how long do you play that game. A month? 2 Months? then you need another game otherwise you get bored with the one game?
Thats R7200 in 1 year. you do this for 3 years R21000
Now that and the cost of the console is? +- R25000!!!

a pc upgraded every 2 years thats +- R7000
4 years later you have spent R10500 on upgrades?

Now after 3 years of upgrading pc and buying a new game every month you pay R21300!!!

That means that the pc is cheaper

Which one of the 2 gives you more entertainment is up to the user and what he\she wants!

I am a PC enthusiast and consoles irritate me!

We can work on R450 per game for console games. Many are a lot cheaper.

And you didn't factor in the cost of my time. I do play games on the PC and there are invariably problems - Windows has become sick and needs to be put down, display drivers aren't configured just right or I need the bleeding edge driver, games that just refuse to work which often turns out to be the fault of some inane copy protection, and finally the time spent messing around trying to figure out the best combination of settings, looking for the best quality while making sure the game still runs smoothly.

I still use the PC because just as there are some games unique to my console there are those that only exist for the PC, but any time I play a game on my PC I'm reminded of how quick and easy it is to just sit down and play on the console.

PC gaming and console gaming will exist as long as there is an economic benefit to support their existence.

@IDIOT

Sure, but you and your family can't sit around a PC playing games, and once you throw multiple game ready PC's into the mix for multiplayer, the cost issue is blown out the window.

And as far as buying games go, i'm with 'n you can get most AAA+ for R450-R500, and most people only buy games once every 2-3 months, if that. On top of that, with the new consoles there's the option of demo downloads and downloadable arcade games, so there are far more options.

One thing you have to take into consideration is the fact that any number or stat regarding the sale of pc games will be incorrect.

Everytime there is a new release MILLIONS of people pirate the game instead of buying it due to the high price for games and the lacking quality of gameplay involved with the games as of late. The piracy on console games for consoles like X360 is a lot less compared to pc games.

If the developers stop spending so much time on graphics and rather focus on smooth gameplay then PC Sales and number of pc gamers would increase even more.

I personally wouldn't buy a console because I refuse to play FPS Games with a damn remote. A mouse and a keyboard is required for it. Finish and Klaar.

300 is nothing for a game :)

(found on another forum)

pasted this link in another thread as well...
unbiased comparison between xbox360 and ps3.

they also talk about the differences between these consoles and why a Cell processor isnt necessarily the stronger cpu. and why you cant do that much with your PS3 as apposed to your PC..

PLEASE read it :)

PC games have been R300 each for the last 8 years, I don't consider that a High price for games or some type of justification for piracy.

Take the time to compare our pc game prices with those oversea's, for eg. America. Then tell me its not expensive. Also please take into consideration the fact that most gamers are under the age of 18 and still live with their parents. Not everyone is rich and most people don't earn vast amounts of pocket money. When I still earned pocket money and hadn't started working I got R400 a month. Now I would also like to have a social life and not spend my money on one computer game.

In my honest opinion I don't think they really have an excuse to pirate oversea's and if I were living there I would actually spend my money on computer games. Another reason for piracy is the fact that the actual gameplay for PC games have decreased quite substantially and as I have found I get bored of most games within 3hours and then I delete it. Where older games that have been overkilled I just keep playing over and over. I don't want to spend R300 on something that I'm going to delete within 3hours.

It feels more to me like consoles have made a comeback since PS2 and I'm glad for that market even though I would never switch over to a console myself. I just hope developers for the computer go back to focussing on gameplay instead of shiny and laggy graphics.

Thanks

Please let us not get into a debate regarding piracy here....we have flogged it to death :D

Computer games in SA are generally cheaper than the USA and definitely cheaper than the UK and Europe. That is more a function of the exchange rate than anything else and I understand that our games come from Europe.

I have been to the states many times where a new title costs $50 =( R365 ) and I have lived in Europe for 2 years of my life, In the UK a new PC game title costs 30 pounds, thats R420 my friend, so maybe "YOU" should actually buy a game from overseas before making ignorant assumptions then you would realise that S.A is extremely cheap for PC games.

yes but I can't understand how S.A manages to keep its PC titles cheaper then the countries that are designing these games.

Supply and demand.

The distributors found a sweet spot, it's still more sales, and it's a relatively small market so the int's don't really notice.
