The South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) will hold an emergency board meeting on Wednesday to discuss CEO Manglin Pillay’s widely criticised comments about women.

SAICE said in a statement it was aware of the current controversy caused by Pillay after he penned a column in the July Civil Engineering magazine questioning whether South Africa should be investing so heavily into attracting females into STEM as evidence showed women are "predisposed" to caring and people-orientated careers.

He's right, of course. Generally speaking.

The real scandal here is that some people just can't see it or bring themselves to acknowledge it.

Yeah sorry Mr Pillay but that was actually a pretty dumbaf thing to say.

See this lovely lady here here name is Faviola Gianotti, she is a particle physicist and she is also the director of CERN.

Which means she is pretty much smarter and higher qualified than anyone at South African Institution of Civil Engineering.

Have a nice day.

I'm sure he knows that.

His point is a different one, missed entirely by all these falling about in apoplexy.

(My own family has a microbiologist and a civil engineer who quite incidentally happen to be female. They didn't need special affirmative programs to choose their professions, being more than competent and capable enough to make their way in these professions without being mollycoddled as females.)

He didn't say that they are stupid. He said they liked other jobs more.

Humans has lost the plot.

Is it any more pushing than what schools do with guidance and career days/exhibitions. They're just taking you to the water and its your decision to drink or not as the fancy takes you.

exactly. These days Feminism are what woman dictate other woman to be. And if you choose different you are talked down.
Feminism is a woman can choose to be an engineer and a mother or just a mother or just a librarian.

Its about choice not what choice.

But we all need to be fat naked hairy angry feminazi's shouting our disgust at woman who choose differently.

He's right.
Statistics prove that women are given all the choice and freedom to choose engineering, but many of them simply do not want to do it.

They're hardwired that way the same way men would shy away from occupational therapy.

Why fight it.

He's also an engineer. My father-in-law is the same as this guy - zero talent in predicting how people will react to inflammatory statements such as "I'm the most intelligent person in the room. I can't help it."
