I worry about his workload. I worry that he could face the same issues which Mfuneko Ngam so many moons ago.

Rabada's workload is unfortunate in that the balance of the bowling department fails to get wickets. The lad looked tied toward the end. Just why Morkel or Piedt couldn't get wickets? A spin bowler should be able to hold an end if called on to do so. Bowl with control. None of that today.

He claimed he could bowl 10 more overs today. Workload thing is an interesting debate. Mikey Holding reckons he is bowling too much while Ntini reckons he can bowl 30 overs a day.

Also the comparison with ngam is totally wrong. The only they have in common is that they are both fast bowlers and the so called transformation poster boy.

Mfuneko had an issue with his bones because he didn't eat properly while growing up, not his fault he didn't have access to the foods he needed. KG rabada comes from a wealthy family (his dad is a neurosurgeon) and went to St.Stinithians. They would have made sure he was looked after.

But Kagiso has Scoliosis which means he's very susceptible to back stress fractures. He should be managed properly.

Was not aware of that. In that case definitely should be careful. I would rest him for most of the odi's coming up, he should play the t20's as we have a world t20 coming up but doesn't need to play much if at all in the 50 over stuff this series imho.

Play is due to start early, at 10.04am, due to the time lost yesterday to rain; conditions look clear enough in Centurion right now but there is a chance that the weather will intervene again over the final two days.

From my vantage point, the cloud cover is clearing from the south. Hopefully the skies will give the teams at least 80 overs today. If more, great!

By resting players, you get a view who is next in line / have the quality to succeed.
It feels like the selectors are guessing as they go along on who should play.

I have no problem with resting and rotating players in odi's and t20's but for me for test cricket you should always pick your best team.

The selectors have had a serious lack of vision. There has been much chopping and changing because they haven't identified the right players. They know need to identify who should be the side going forward.

So what score does everyone reckon AB would be happy with if we don't get bowled out? I reckon about 400.

A better question than how many runs to defend is how many sessions we need to bowl them out...we've got 3 bowlers now and the main one looked pretty tired yesterday.

I can't see us being able to bowl more than 2 sessions decently so declaring later than usual would probably be a good idea...we might get flak for batting them out the game but I think there's a decent chance we lose this if we can't get them into real trouble with the new ball (I'm talking 50-4 or something like that - even then, Stokes and Bairstow can take it away if they bat long enough against a tired attack).

Anderson to Amla, no run, dug in shorter and the ball leaps up, threatening jam Amla's fingers against the bat handle, he fends it away and takes his bottom hand off

Anderson to Amla, no run, hits high up the bat as Amla plays back, again instinctively snapping his bottom hand off the handle

I haven't anything more about Amla (condition of his thumb/hand) and Abbott (hamstring), but it seems that the damage to Amla's thumb may be more than bruising. I really hope it isn't too serious for either (but particularly Amla). It would be really great to see Amla in the ODI's.

Target of 400, so we need to get 270 in our second innings?

I would think the same.

On the strength of the pitch starting to misbehave, even 325 - 350 will be a big ask. The more important consideration is time. No point in getting a defensible lead and having no time to get 10 wickets. Weather is likely to interfere a bit on both days. Whatever total they set up, they probably need to leave themselves the best part of 4 sessions to have a crack at England.

Wouldnt at all be surprised if we see another collapse here, thats how weak the mentality of this team is.
