Lunch day 4. The match situation is interesting:

South Africa 475 & 121/4 (48.0 ov)
England 342
South Africa lead by 254 runs with 6 wickets remaining

67 overs left in the day. Doubtful if they will get them all in. Therefore, unless there is a real surge after lunch, I do not think we will be declaring before Tea. More likely after Tea and it will be a decision based on time and runs required.

So they look at 3.5 or 4 runs per over? With Abbott still in doubt and our inability to contain, do we look at more? We need a win (pride and morale boost!). The series is lost. Our No. 1 ranking is lost regardless. Maybe 3.5 - 3.75?

You fool! Now they will bring Faf back!

Yeah,
The difference between Faf and JP is, JP actually has the talent. Faf on the other hand......SO if i had to choose between them, I'll always choose JP.

At this point i would also consider Pretorius, He can bat and we have a extra seamer.
Batting alone De Bruyn might be the answer. And don't give me that "He is to young nonsense, Kallis, QDK, Smith, AB etc where just as young)
Dwaine Pretorius

Theunis de Bruyn

What ever happened to Brett Pelser?, he was decent, did he not open as well?

They are both pretty useless so doesn't matter which one of the two. RR or give stian a chance in the middle order please.

Shouldn't be hoping anyone playing your team fails thought. That is like hoping someone shoots you in the foot.

  1. Yes, both are lean on delivering. Although JP delivered some runs in both innings and a fortuitous wicket. Either way, I do not want Faf back. EVER!!!
  2. I am in favour of giving that position to either Stiaan van Zyl or Rilee.

Same. Faf has been living off the glory of those two match-saving knocks. Haven't really seen much out of him since, especially when we needed him to step up. More than that, because of those knocks, it's been ingrained in him that he must always play that way - has no ability to play according to the match situation...

add Graeme van Buuren http://www.espncricinfo.com/southafrica/content/player/381002.html to the list of decent player. The big problem is hes not making the Titans team.

As I said about Dwaine he needs another season, it would be unfair to pick him for tests till he is ready. Would like to see him involved in the odi/t20 side thought.

De bruyn is having a shocking season, he needs to pull his socks up.

Van Buuren and Pelser's records are based on the amateur division, they have hardly if at all played franchise cricket. Lets see what they can do there first...

Well he's 26 already. He should at least be in the squad spending time with the team when he is not playing franchise cricket...

Shocking season and still has an average of 48, that shows you how good he has been, Also he was the only batsman looking good against Hardus Viljoen in the last match. there is absolutely no way you are going to tell me Faf is better than de Bruyn, Shocking season or not.

Lets not rush Dwaine please. Guy is talented but this is only the first season he has been consistently in the lions 4 day team. Give the lad another season before rushing him when he is not ready.
Hence if we had to pick someone now.

Realistically we will have to play Morris to bat at 7 with QdK moving up to six. With Morris at 7 and Philander at 8 it can be decent. But this will put nore pressure on # and AB to perform.
