Once we avoid the follow on we should be able to go harder at the ball.Sure, I can agree with that but your initial statement of "bat once, bat big" is completely unrealistic...

Maybe selectors looking for an allrounder because we already have Morkel and Rabada as strikers with very little batting prowess. If Morris comes in and smashes a 100 then his selection is justified.
Can't say Morris is not good enough as all the bowlers got plastered on a flat track.

Morris's batting is a moot point, IMO...he's playing as the third seamer which means he's there for his bowling. Rabada may have gotten a tonking also but he's definitely a better bowler who gets in on merit.
If Morris is picked as an allrounder, then someone in the top order needs to sit so we can get another actual bowler into the side. At the moment our top order isn't firing so we shouldn't be picking an allrounder unless he bats or bowls well enough to get picked for one or the other discipline on merit.
"JP Duminy, Rilee Rossouw and Hardus Viljoen have been released to join their respective franchise teams for the next round of Sunfoil Series matches starting on January 7th.
The squad for the remaining two Tests will be announced at the conclusion of the current match in Cape Town."
Mmmm...
Means Duminy has been dropped, and reading between the lines they're going to call up a specialist opener - if they're getting rid of Rossouw.
Squad will be announced before the Sunfoil games kick off, so no. Plus, you run the risk that either of them occupy the crease for way too long - tiring them out.No both Duminy and Rossouw need match practice, if Duminy fails for the cobras he will be dropped.
I don't disagree he's been picked as a bowler but given our frail batting at the top he's match winning 80 odd against the Cape Cobras last week must've played a role in him getting selected ahead of Viljoen.
I see him as good replacement for Philander with a better batting record and a superior strike rate. Its Morkel who should be doing Steyns job not Morris.
We're one game behind. Irrespective of the score, we'll want to declare at tea time tomorrow.
Nope, England will leave us in a position where a loss or draw is the only possible outcomes. I say bat till all is out, even if it is day 5. Demoralize their bowlers for the next match.
