Couple of lucky breaks for us with those dropped catches - the heat doing the job!

Sweat!

I blame you for them not dropping another!

:p

Well-played, AB...kind of a giveaway but occupying the crease and the runs were welcome.

Nope, England will leave us in a position where a loss or draw is the only possible outcomes. I say bat till all is out, even if it is day 5. Demoralize their bowlers for the next match.

Yes, I think the longer things go on the more they will struggle with the conditions.

There is the remote chance we put up a decent score and then make short work of them for 100 runs tomorrow... but more realistic is a draw.

Courtesy of Miller: This is already du Plessis's second-highest score since July. South Africa's run-machines are flooding back to form

Kinda tells you how Piss Poor Faf has been over the last few months...

PS - he's on 13...

That was a good partnership at least. Hope we can string together a few more.

Stumps day 3

South Africa 353/3 (130.0 ov)

South Africa trail by 276 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

... A bit slow, but we should save this match I hope .

Geeeeeezzzzuz, well done to you lads today, honestly the two man army showed a lot of grit, especially ol' Amla, hats off.
It's funny how the two teams have seemed to switched roles, England are normally the ones fighting all day for a draw and SA show an attacking game plan.

England's batting score kind of dictated this play from SA. Batting aggressively and going for a lead was never going to happen. I think we should bat untill we are all out, and have the England bowlers out in the field for 2.5 days.

First objective: avoid the follow on, which does not mean a blockathon. Bat positively without being reckless...

Second objective: Tight bowling - disciplined, line and length to make it difficult for them to score quick runs, which will make a declaration tricky. Being 1-0 up they will not give us even a sniff at a chance of a decent target.

Third objective: Bat out one session on day four and the whole of day five.

Draw.

Get to the Wanderers and come out firing - it's time to go to WAR!
First objective, well executed and within grasp. #MCDforcoach

Good day today. Well done to team. Rode our luck at times but you need that too.

LOL

I was about to go back and look for that post.

First objective is within our grasp. Run rate could have been better but I can sympathise with Hashim and AB... the hole was deep from the last few Tests and they went about their work in a determined manner.

Once we avoid the follow on we can bat in a more carefree manner.

Amla and de Kock can score at the same rate as Stokes.

the follow on has pretty much become irrelevant after today

We need to keep them in the field for as long as possible and grind their confidence into the sweltering dirt.

It would be ideal if we can bat until lunch on day 5. Maybe have a 120-150 lead.
Go all out attack. We might get very very very lucky and the Poms lose 3 / 4 wicketa for 50.
