It would be ideal if we can bat until lunch on day 5. Maybe have a 120-150 lead.
Go all out attack. We might get very very very lucky and the Poms lose 3 / 4 wicketa for 50.

Lol, we would need Warne + Murali bowling in tandem on day 5 for any chance of that happening, on that tarmac-like pitch.

I think a draw is pretty much a given. Even if England somehow bowls us oitbefore lunch tomorrow, they wont be able to bowl us out again. So might a well get the most out of a draw and keep them in the field for as long as possible. Crucial batting practice for us and rest for our bowlers while the Eng team and bowlers have to sweat it out in the heat.

This, so much this.

After rolling over to them on Durban and being failed by Stokes and Bairstow, we absolutely owe it to ourselves and them to keep them in the field for as long as possible.

SA have a few complete fails on record in the last innings. Don't count your chickens yet ...

This is only the second innings. To get to the last innings, England would have to bat again.

First post in long time, been busy...happy new year to all

Once we avoid the follow on we can bat in a more carefree manner.

Amla and de Kock can score at the same rate as Stokes.

Follow on is not the issue, rarely enforced these days and especialy not with close to 150 overs bowled. They will come out and belt runs and set a high target.
Hence my reservations about the slow batting. Yes, you can absorb the time, but you need the runs. IMO, they should be less than 100 behind with less than one session left today to ensure safety.

Other questions...why the issue with leadership when the bowlers are not bowling to plan. The mayhem started when the chief bowler was belted at start of day two. A captain cannot set fields for that, having said that, now that he is batting ok, give him time to learn from mistakes.

Bavuma vs Duminy...what's the deal here, or am I missing something. Qdk coming in is good, but in Bavuma's case, is Duminy not dark enough for the quota or are there quotas within quotas?

Duminy averaged 10 in the last year and is averaging 32 at test level. Not convinced about bavuma either but he did marginally better then duminy in the last year and atleast shows fight.

In South Africa temperament beats out talent at this level, imho.

No one else has averaged a lot in 2015, but at least Duminy has a bowling option, partnership breaker that sort of thing. I don't rate Bavuma.
That said, SA has an overall talent problem, a batting technique issue, as I have stated before, and with their bowling stocks down it is hurting them.
Compared to Aussies now, the domestic scene was reviewed at high level a few years ago and now suddenly they do not know who to pick, a second string will beat most.

..oh, on another note, Beefy's comments are interesting re the crap kookaburra ball. This season has seen balls being replaced as low as every five overs over here.

oh...and the Kaap looks great, I am homesick again, will be back again in 8 weeks.

I must admit to getting huge satisfaction in our approach to this innings after the mauling we took from Stokes.

We must bat and bat and bat until England are completely and utterly ****ed.

There's no point declaring so just grind them into the dirt and then keep on smashing them until there isn't anything left to smash.
