No one else has averaged a lot in 2015, but at least Duminy has a bowling option, partnership breaker that sort of thing. I don't rate Bavuma.
That said, SA has an overall talent problem, a batting technique issue, as I have stated before, and with their bowling stocks down it is hurting them.
Compared to Aussies now, the domestic scene was reviewed at high level a few years ago and now suddenly they do not know who to pick, a second string will beat most.

Duminy hardly bowled in india on tracks that were turning square, elgar was prefered...

As for domestic competitions. If you speak to anyone they will say the domestic competition standards have dropped around the world. Our maybe more then others because of the quotas imposed but we are hardly alone in standards having dropped.

As for for bowling talent. We do have enough talent there, a lot of them are just very inexperienced. Radaba will be a star of the future(yes he got smashed in this game on a flat track it happens to even the best) then we have viljoen, patterson, beuran hendricks, savage, pretorius, gqamane, pillans, phelukwayo, ect

Hopefully one of savage, pretorius or phelukwayo can be that allrounder we desperately need.

First objective: avoid the follow on, which does not mean a blockathon. Bat positively without being reckless...

Second objective: Tight bowling - disciplined, line and length to make it difficult for them to score quick runs, which will make a declaration tricky. Being 1-0 up they will not give us even a sniff at a chance of a decent target.

Third objective: Bat out one session on day four and the whole of day five.

Draw.

Get to the Wanderers and come out firing - it's time to go to WAR!

Objective #1 - Complete.

Amla decide he was tired of the 2015 slumber, came out and started doing things again in 2016.

The English must really hate him!:D

New ball is available immediately after lunch. If they take it I think we'll see a flurry of runs in the next 10-15 overs.

I think if the runs come it will come from Faf, i get the feeling Amla will continue to do what he's done.

Well done #

Also, huge thanks to the Newlands groundsman for preparing such a stunning batting practice strip - our top order really needed it.

Oh, and of course thank you to the English for dropping those catches

QDK is already in the side. Its time for van zyl to be dropped for Stephen Cook thought.

Aah good that he is in,shouldn't be dropped again. Didn't notice because he is batting down the order, probably to give him a break after a long fielding session.

I've been wondering would it be possible for him and De Villiers to share wicket keeping duties halfway through the innings since they are both excellent wicket keepers and doing so could reduce strain on each so as not to affect their batting?
