game's up for a draw now, too difficult to win it.

I'm very pleased with the draw. We've rolled with the punches, taken it and came out fighting gloriously. The batsman have stepped up and found form and the bowlers have given England a right old scare, the confidence will be searing through this team whilst England will be scratching their head and thinking, 629/6d , on the field for 210 overs and we came quite close to losing.

Momentum is swinging back in our favour and this will be key for the remaining two test matches.

Upwards and onwards. #proteafire #nowwerecooking

I almost think he's done enough to retain his place in the starting XI. I don't remember when last I've seen such spectacular slip catching. Cannot emphasis enough the value of good hands in the slip cordon. Hell, if England had held onto theirs this would have been another test match over in 3 or 4 days. Unreal if you analysis it.

Problem is some one has to make way for Steyn for Joburg and we need to keep within the quota requirements. Which means one of morris or morkel have to go for steyn.

Very true, but on the other side of the same coin, England could also be pleased with the result of a likely draw.
Considering they made the first innings score in a day and a half, while SA took almost 2 and a half days.
The pitch was a batsman's paradise, nothing on offer for the bowlers and the fact England dropped so many catches to help keep SA in this test.

Only today did the ball start having some movement, and that Capetown Sahara park is a Fortress for SA test cricket and England have had no joy there in the past.

I think all in all England will be happy going to the highveld leading 1 up with 2 tests left.

Please don't tell me they'll put steyn back in the team. What the hell for? So he can bowl a handful of overs and then fall apart again?

They're a fragile lot. At least Philander and JP usually pick up their ailments playing netball or whatever during practice, so we can picking a fit 11. Steyn picks his up during the match meaning we have to play the remainder of the match with 10 guys...

First objective: avoid the follow on, which does not mean a blockathon. Bat positively without being reckless...

Second objective: Tight bowling - disciplined, line and length to make it difficult for them to score quick runs, which will make a declaration tricky. Being 1-0 up they will not give us even a sniff at a chance of a decent target.

Third objective: Bat out one session on day four and the whole of day five.

Draw.

Get to the Wanderers and come out firing - it's time to go to WAR!

Objective #1 - check
Objective #2 - check
Objective #3 - Not required

Draw

Now let's crush 'em in the Bull Ring !!

Why resign now, he just safed a remarkable test for his country, and batted superbly, great signs going forward. Should have resigned after the Durban hammering. Something is fishy and going down in the camp me thinks.

I share this sentiment.

He's an extremely honorable man. He feels that the captaincy is impacting his batting and wants to re-focus his attention. I have huge respect for him and I hope he now goes on to score TONS of runs!!! It will be great to have the old Hash back!
