Sorry no. Maybe he feels the captaincy prevented him from scoring 350.
I see it as jumping ship early in case we lose the 3rd test. Gutless decision from Amla mid tour.

Could also backfire on him if he gets a pair in Jhb.

Did you listen to his entire interview?

He could have resigned immediately after Durban or immediately after India or at anytime on the Indian tour. You can't call him gutless after he stuck out that thrashing we got over there.

If he'd resigned after Durban, that's just 2 days to manage the transition..now AB has a week.

Notice how he takes Amla's resignation and turns it into an opportunity to get on his anti-AB horse.

Outkast alternates riding his pro-Tsolekile / Tsotsobe horse with riding his anti-AB horse...at least his posts are predictable.

Yet as before becoming a huge pain in the ass again, I just do not frequent these threads anymore. It's spoiled forever.

One huge positive we've got out of today...if we put England under pressure, they will fall. If we can start well, we can dominate this English team.

We must do the basics well and control the run rate when we bowl...Cook and Compton we can tie up and that will put more pressure on the guys who want to score freely (Root, Taylor, Stokes). Making them sweat for each run takes pressure off our batting.

He's an extremely honorable man. He feels that the captaincy is impacting his batting and wants to re-focus his attention. I have huge respect for him and I hope he now goes on to score TONS of runs!!! It will be great to have the old Hash back!

As Michael Holding just said, Hashim himself said that he feels that someone else can do a better job as Captain - that is humility and self awareness of your strengths and weaknesses in action.

Huge, huge respect to him.

All of this ^ and so much more. I have always greatly admired his humility, demeanour and resolve to deliver the very best he can for the team. Him stepping down and its timing just vaults my respect for him so much more.

I could risk my first infraction and lay into you, but truth be told, you aren't worth it. Gutless? You are seriously completely clueless. The best you can do is back off and reserve your comments for something actually have a semblance of understanding for.

It's simple, he knows his not the best person to Captain.

Nothing more.

He's 200 is exactly what was needed to galvanise the team around him going forward.
The rest of the team are struggling and now someone else is given the monumental task of picking up the pieces.
If the team said he should step down so be it but if Hash dropped a bomb on them it can't be good for the next test

Do you think he would've stepped down if we took the Durban test?

A loss in Jhb might be attributed to him walking away thus throwing the team into disarray.

No. What am I missing?

He discussed his state of mind with the coach and some senior players two weeks ago. He told them that he was considering standing down after the second test. It was too close to the first test and the 2 days between the tests was not a good time to make his decision.

AB has done it in ODIs, he's a good stopgap captain. We can sort out the permanent captain after this series...

heard an interesting caller on 702 this evening, someone who worked with Hash in his younger years, said he's a great leader but he struggles with tactics, wouldn't this reflect what we've been witnessing?

Which probably explains Hashim's own words that he's willing to stand down as they is somebody more capable at captaincy that he is.

gotta give you points for persistence but the guy is barely in the team at this point :p

Dunno who else will take the gloves, and everyone keeps talking about long term. Who else is there? Bavuma? His batting will crumble if he is the cap'n.

And more importantly, during this rebuilding (I don't like the word transition in this context) QdK can play and captain all three formats, which is what this team needs now.
