So you do not know him personally, maybe just met him by chance even?
Nope. So who here has?
So you do not know him personally, maybe just met him by chance even?
OMG.
You know him personally and vouch for his principles?
He wears a beard and says he's a muslim. I saw Hansie pray to his God on the field many times.
What was your point again?
Just because Hansie let everyone down doesn't mean that there aren't people out there who do indeed stick to their principles.
My point is that people who say outright that he lied about his reasons for retiring the captaincy are deeply disrespectful of a man with deep principles and strength of character.

and you have of course played cricket under those conditions and known with 100% certainty that you got the finest of nicks on the ball.
Amla is renowned for 'walking'

problem settled then.![]()
While we're on Hansie, he may have been corrupt but he was tactically excellent. His record was very good, and you can't rig a game to win without the approval of the other team. One has to wonder how much better we could have been if he was an honest man...Just because Hansie let everyone down doesn't mean that there aren't people out there who do indeed stick to their principles.

NLTC Perera to Amla, no run, big appeal from Sangakkara, but not much interest from many others, including the umpire. Short of a length, wide of the stumps. Amla tries to cut, but again it beats his top edge. Don't think there was anything there

Fair enough, but let's base our faith in his principles on more than his beard and professed religion?
Which is why I made the Hansie reference, cause he also portrayed himself as pious and devout...
Lol. You probably never played cricket before. As a captain, you need to constantly think about the state of the match, what you could do differently and at times concocting a few plans. Yes, you do a considerable amount before the match, but you cannot account for all situations and sometimes you have to be creative enough to strategise in the moment. There are several parts to captaincy. Leadership (inspiring etc) is one; having a great cricketing mind is another. You cannot seriously suggest you don't need to know much about being a captain in order to be a captain.
I agree with your take on Hashim, though. A captain needs to be outspoken and the source of inspiration.
I agree. Peter and Gary to open the batting and the ghost of Hansie to captain the team from below.
I challenge you to go to the Wanderers and to tell Hashim that to his face.Through his teeth. You don't say the things Amla said when he got the captaincy then resign ahead of or midway through the Proteas' biggest Series since his appointment. Read what he said when he was named captain, and you'll know that what he said now is rubbish and a huge contradiction in comparison. Cook has endured worse with his batting form, fan abuse, analysts, celebrities, peers, former greats etc, you name it but stuck it out. Their personalities are the same. Both guys laid back&humble. Look at Cook now. leading arguably the #1 Test side. Amla throwing in the towel like that, knowing AB's captancy is suspect, plus other batsmen besides Elgar off colour? Injury ravaged, against England? Does not correlate!
^ Amla does not open the batting.
