Lol. Good thing? It’s a nice little bonus for those who can afford it in the first place.
You are right, a rebate would have made more sense.

People still have to fork out the upfront capital
 
This only applies to the cost of the panels and not the full system.
So I wouldn't be able to claim for the full R15k even though I am spending R200k.
I guess it is linked to generation, but they could at least have included the inverter.
 
This only applies to solar panels. Not batteries, not inverters, not installation costs.

Also the mounting kit for the panels. This would at least make it easier to reach the R60k cap.
The fact that they are taking one component in isolation is not ideal.

Other components of a system — batteries, inverters, fittings or diesel generators — do not qualify. Portable panels will also not qualify

They need to rebate the inverters too. I'm also in favour of already installed home solar to qualify too. But this is a good start. Wonder how long until someone finds a way to abuse it though.
