The earth is only 6000 years old! Neanderthals are filthy LIEZ spread by the evil scientists who rely on silly things like evidence, reason, and testability of hypotheses! :p

Seriously though, interesting story. I don't know if it will ever be possible to recreate extinct species just from knowing their genetic code, but if so out won't be in the near future..

Yes very possible, they are looking at doing something like this with the woolly mammoth. As has been mentioned by the previous poster ethical reasons will hold it back. I think what would most likely happen is that cells and organs perhaps even body parts will be created.
