Entire PMB Dsl goes slow at certain times.

Last night for the second time dsl went balls up, my WA-IS,AXXES- MTN, and telkom accounts were all slow, pinging locally 400ms + and download speeds down from 10 meg to 0.5 meg! Lasted about three hours, same thing happened to my friends on other ISP's and on other exchanges. It seems to be town wide. However I can't find any notices or alerts or anything about it. Does anyone know what has been happening?

Is it back up again?
My comms to my PMB site(industrial area) are all down along with their phone lines today.

From your description it sounds like a major infrastructure hiccup.
I have not seen any notices of outages or planned maintenance.

I have the same problem here in Richmond. I route through PMB on Telkom's ME network.

Average latency across all 4 of my lines was 400ms from 8:00pm to 1:00am last night....

I use Mweb, Afrihost & IS.... So I can confirm there is a problem...

My mates and I been having this every now and then for about a week. Every ISP. Think that the Pinetown or Underberg exchange is bogged.

And here we go again! PMB, Richmond & Byrne.... High latency & speeds down the toilet, seems to happen every week now!!!

Denouncer pointed me at this thread. I'm in Ladysmith and having the same problem. It tends to be pretty intermittent but for long stretches at a time - fine for half an hour, then utterly hopeless for half an hour.

216ms to where? If that's to your second hop it's certainly not normal. Should be 1/10th of that.

It's not exchange-related. It's further along the route. Generally a switching or routing problem.

Up the creek this morning again, and yesterday the same story.....

Telkom ZA care to comment why ADSL users routing through PMB are all affected by high latency at least once a day for appropriately 6-8 hours?
