Epson EcoTank printers – say goodbye to ink cartridges

Sheesh... must be a slow news day eh Kevin...
Sorry mate, this is not news... known about this for quite a while...

hrm.. wonder what the quality of the printed material will be

So how much will these printers cost if Epson can't subsidize printer cost and recover via ink cartridge sales? Printers to become costly again?

I see a whole new set of issues.

Going to be plenty people putting the wrong ink into the wrong tank for one.

I have been hearing this system advertised on Talk Radio 702 for quite some time now. Also, prior to that, I had heard about it when we were looking at printers for work... (2013)

Some advice please ladies and gents.
I'm considering one of these multi function printers the L565.
What are Epson like: Build quality, reliability, service etc. and the realistic longterm running expenses..after 2 years will need to replace the xyzs...
I'm looking long term +5 years, my needs are small in terms of no. of copies printed per month, but wireless/ wifi important.

I currently have a perfectly good in all ways HP 8500 A 910 Office jet Pro but the ****** have doubled the price of the ink from when I bought it.
The other option is to run the HP on generic inks: if so where in the Woodstock/ Montague Gardens area can I obtain generic inks?
The last option is to purchase a Brother MFC-J200 instead. Good/ bad/ mad?
Comments good and bad appreciated, thanks!

I've been using my Epson L355 for a while now.

No complaints. My wife prints a lot and all ink tanks seems to have lots of ink left.
This was my best printer buy so far. In the past I used to buy a printer a year due to to ink costs.

Box comes with extra set of ink.

Thanks! I see you model has no fax.
Has the fax for business gone the way of the Dodo..I have not used a fax in years, and thus may reconsider the model.

That is Government I guess.
I bought x2 of the colour generic cartridges for my HP, fitted one seems ok, but the shop dealing in recycled cartridges says I ought to keep my HP as it is a good machine, but that the Epson tank type will also have an issue by the 3 rd or forth refill with the chip insisting on a new cartridge, questioned this, him adamant, me thinking he is confused...anything on this?

He is confused. With the epson you pour ink into the tank - no chippery involved.

Either you're confusing it with the DIY tank systems or you work for Epson.

@ mister, thanks, as you say is how I understand it, but hearing all the various issues via chips to authenticate/ verify ink/ toner etc. I wish to be damn sure that later (+x2 years) there are no surprises, all this before I buy.
If it looks good it likely has a hook hidden somewhere.
Big companies often try the Volkswagen/ OOB type tricks, and the printer crowd have been masters to date.

The chip issues are when you refill cartridges. These printers have tanks which you fill up. There are no chips involved. I have the L550 and I have no regrets.

Any more feadback on these EcoTank Epson printers? thinking about it for a small office, I also see Epson is running a promotion where you get cash back and inc for 2 years if buying a printer before the end of the year.

Still enjoying the savings on ink using my Epson L355.
