A hacksaw was used to cut through the bars of a prison cell at Makhanda (Grahamstown) prison in the Eastern Cape, resulting in the escape of seven dangerous inmates on Tuesday morning.

These details were revealed by deputy justice and correctional services minister Nkosi Phathekile Holomisa during a media briefing in KwaZulu-Natal.

Holomisa raised questions about the incident, identifying a lapse in security measures which should have prevented the escape. ,

Got to love every single cop walking around the prison complex with that guy. They creep out the woodwork when a big boss is around.

Or just walk out because all the door latches are blocked with presstick because guards are too lazy to use keys.
bars? SA prisons have Bars? I thought they rusted long ago with the amount of maintenance they receive.

Rhino horn pays for a LOT of contraband in prison. I bet it didn't even cost the syndicate much to arrange for them to escape. I hope they are all shot during their re-arrests.

I wonder how many actual escapes there are by prisoners in SA.

I bet it's a lot more than we have been told about.
Yeah, I heard from a reliable source that John Block escaped years ago, that's why the did not want Lindiwe to see him, apparently this was kept under wraps because the WMC puppet personally ordered his escape.

Years ago they would come around twice a week to come and inspect all the bars in each cell. but as the years went by, and the stomachs grew bigger, they came less and less to eventually maybe once in 6 months, and this was in maximum security prisons. What I can tell you though, today they will be checking the bars, all over the country, since someone escaped...lol

They are normally busy sleeping, yes they find no problem with sitting around sleeping in the offices, even in the units where inmates live. Walking around is something they reserve for when they want food, coffee or a cigarette. Yes you get the hardworking ones as well, they are just very scares.
