Eskom’s 14,000 km transmission grid problem

If municipalities can source or generate their own power closer to their customers then we wouldn't need such long distance, high capacity transmission lines in the first place.
That is actually how it used to be, hence the cooling towers in Orlando, Kelvin power station, the 2 in Pretoria.
But there were 2 problems, especially out in CPT, the coal is up in Mpumalanga and Limpopo, transportation all around the country was getting expensive. So the plants were built close by to apparently make it easier to transport, until the ANC came along and stuffed that up as well.

but building power stations everywhere with all their soot and coal trucks driving around like blue light convoys,
isnt something people enjoy.

so put a power station in the middle of nowhere, and run cables to substations and eventually to your house seems like a more pleasant solution.
but as usual the ANC stuffed that up, like everything else they renamed or introduced ministers for.

But it's easier to eat from the big trough.

Except that isn't possible with "renewables".

It is possible with nuclear energy.

I just don't get why transmission capacity is a problem. My Solar PV works brilliantly 9 out of 10 days in Gauteng. No need for transmission lines...
