How do they plan on implementing this when Sipho who lives alone is allocated the same amount of power as his nextdoor neighbour Mohammed who has a family of 10 on his property?

Another sh1t3 for brains ideas from the 29%ers. Anything to make a quick buck but never a solution to fix the actual mess. Yet another shining anc example of incompetence and delusion

I use gas. My geyser has been off for weeks now. They’re welcome to switch it off even more.
Mine is on for an hour a day... Same as pretty much most people i know... Well.. The ones that pay for power that is...

Most geysers are on over 2hrs a day I would say - especially a house with more than 2 people in it. My geyser would be on for at min, 2:30hr a day - easily. 200L to heat up. And then reheat again right after a shower.

With the gas water heater, I don't have such issues - it heats up only the water we use. No tank.

City power already does turn off the geysers with the relay device they installed.

Whahaha... they already do this. My local municipality enforces load reduction (long-short it's to protect the town's ailing infrastructure) - had 4 hours LS last night only for it to be extended by another 2 hours of load reduction. We had power for 2 hour from 20:00-22:00 before another 2 hours LS.
Many smaller towns already mange the loads themselves.

The question should rather be who's getting this "smart switch" tender?
