It has been +- 15 years with the energy crisis. They probably will not address load shedding anytime soon. Isn't Eskom also receiving bail out money from the state?

Also, it is pretty strange that the Western Cape Government is not ahead of the curve on this one. From a legal perspective, could the provinces not have come up with their own energy supply plans?
ANC is blocking it.

Response from the Ministry

The promulgated IRP provides for – among other things – any individual or group to undertake embedded generation projects up to a maximum of 500MW per annum. This is part of South Africa’s long-term plan to pursue a diversified energy mix, which covers all possible generation options.

It remains the Minister’s prerogative, as provided for in Section 34 of the Electricity Regulation Act, to ensure security of electricity supply through determining – among other things- the size, technology type, which entity produces the electricity, and by when it should be connected to the grid.

The Ministry has engaged with the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) to provide an opportunity for the Minister to make a presentation on the IRP.

This is done to enable provinces to engage with the Minister and highlight issues that pertain to their individual situation. The Ministry is pleased that the NCOP has swiftly indicated its willingness to enable this engagement before the end of November 2019. The NCOP has further assured the Ministry of the participation of all provinces.

To this end, all provinces – including the Western Cape Legislature – are encouraged to participate in the process and raise issues for the Minister to consider in line with the Ministerial Determinations under section 34 of the Electricity Regulation Act.

The people are more stupid than the government even imagines

PS. Feel free to bookmark this post for 2024 @surface :whistling:
Wrong. The government can only ever be as capable as the body of people who elects them.

People don't make better decisions electing a governance structure than they do when buying a packet of chips.

I sometimes reallly wonder how stupid the government think the people are

But when the same people that complains about the government re-elects them - I guess it gives them the ammo to think the public is not smart
Yeah, like them burning tyres the day after elections.

You do bad job, we vote for you, why you not do good job?

Durban municipality has set aside R324 billion to build 3GW of power by 2035. If it'll actually happen is another story.

Unless the plan is resign on mass and hand over power to someone honest and competent we all know the plan won't work.
