Eskom appoints Jabu Mabuza as temporary CEO

South Africa’s embattled state power utility Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. will be temporarily led by Jabu Mabuza, its chairman, who will take over the roles of interim executive chairman and acting chief executive officer starting from next month.

The interim appointment comes after Phakamani Hadebe announced that he would step down as CEO at the end of July because his health was suffering due to the “unimaginable demands” of the job.

Having the same person as the chairman and CEO does not sound like good governance.

I also think Pravin is wary of having too many hands while Eskom is still so fragile, accountability is also a lot easier, hopefully they get a good person and fill the post as the way it is is also not ideal.

How can one executive have two high-responsibility positions, in addition to four external director positions, and still be effective?

Because mostly, they do nothing anyway except collect the gravy/cream at the end of the month.

Was hoping we would see the demise of the two stooges.
Benny Boekwurm is gone, now Karel Kraai wears two hats.
Wonder if the referee is going use new "taxi maintenance" analogies to describe the next tranch of LS?

Why hasn't the Chairman, now CEO done anything on this?
Eskom, in reply to questions by Business Report, admits that it has unearthed a number of irregularities within the coal procurement process, and has dealt with these matters, but that it could not disclose the details.
In some instances, the utility said, coal contracts have been suspended or terminated, penalties applies and some suppliers had been blacklisted, internal disciplinary action had been imposed on some employees and others had been dismissed.
Eskom said it “will never be satisfied until its operations are free of corruption”, and that it was working closely with law enforcement agencies, the SIU, the Hawks and state appointed commissions to investigate irregular practices.
From https://www.iol.co.za/business-report/coal-supply-pipeline-remains-the-root-cause-of-corruption-30022294
The "new" board has been in place over a year and still no details of the coal contract savings. Looks like lack of political will.

Seems fairly impressive CV: https://www.businessinsider.co.za/freeman-nomvalu-saica-eskom-chief-restructuring-officer-unbundling-accountant-general-2019-7
Eskom has appointed Saica CEO Freeman Nomvalo as its chief restructuring officer.

He will have to oversee the unbundling of Eskom into three entities, and the restructuring of its labour force, which could result in thousands of job losses.

Nomvalo was appointed to "save" Saica, and served as SA’s accountant-general for nearly a decade.

Any relation to David Mabuza?
If so, then just another plunderer sitting at the top of eskom and we should not expect anything but more gravy for the cadres:crying:

That is very unfair to him, it matters not whether he is related or not related to DD, judge him on his own record and character.

Maybe so, but after all the issues at eskom, its not a chance we can take as a country.
There are millions of people unemployed in this country, but we can't find someone thats not related to the deputy thief?

Millions of useless people are unemployed. Anyone person capable of saving eskom probably already have something better to do.

Seems Pravin's cabal is getting stronger, but the members being recruited are suspiciously odd.
