Eskom blames clouds for load shedding, says power cuts will last 2 more years

The power crisis is something that South Africa would have to bear with for at least the next two years, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Wednesday.

“That is going to be a problem that will stay with us for… two years. We can’t run away from that,” he said during a question and answer session in the National Assembly.

He said many countries around the world were facing an energy crisis, including the USA.

“The good thing with us is we are not sitting on our backsides. We are addressing the problem.”

yeah I'm sure 1st world countries are having daily load shedding you clown twot .......

OMG... they blame clouds?
That is in the same league as the comment from Zim about the West manipulating our weather.

Time to get the hell out of this hellhole ladies and gentlemen.

To put things in perspective:

In March 2011, Japan had to institute rolling blackouts after a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and a devastating tsunami hit the country which caused the meltdown of one and the shutdown of several of it's nuclear plants resulting in a loss of over 39GW (about 5000MW more than what Eskom can currently generate on a good day).

The 3-hour rolling blackouts only lasted for two-and-a-half-months despite the fact that it's entire nuclear fleet was being shut down over the following months.

Meanwhile in sunny South Africa Eskom blames the effing clouds.

Cloud story might have a grain of truth. And increasingly so as more PV capacity comes online. On cloudy days my own generating plant produces negligible power, forcing me to either shed load or import from the municipal grid. Late May and June have been very cloudy. Fortunately I can import. But Eskom can't.

That is not really blaming the clouds, they stated all the things that went wrong. The PV plant was just about 30% of the energy lost.

Also a real demonstration to people that wants us to use only renewable forms of energy of how sporadic the output can be.

They are more stupid than I thought.
I really didn't know that was possible.

Wait until you read about the one where they're signing Cyber security deals with China... I really cannot believe at the level of absolute idiocy, ignorance and stupidity being displayed! When you think the level could get no higher (or lower? I don't know but it's getting Worse) they go do one better.

Thank god Koeberg came back online and Mdupi is also giving some drips and drabs. After what has now happened at Cahora Bassa in Mozambique and Duvha, we would have been at Stage 3 daily if Keoberg etc waeren't back online.
