How many Hiluxes you could fill with the amount of diesel Eskom uses in one day

Over the past five and a half months, the amount of diesel Eskom has burnt at its open-cycle gas turbine (OCGT) power stations was enough to fill the fuel tanks of over 41,000 Toyota Hilux bakkies or around 74,000 Volkswagen Polos every day.

During a recent update on the state of the country's power system, Eskom chief operating officer Jan Oberholzer revealed the utility had spent around R7.7 billion on diesel from April 2022.

So we can assume another R7 billion up in smoke by year end then?

Yup especially around the 5pm to 10pm time period
Would be interesting to know at which times they are burning diesel. I'm sure it's not only during evening time peak but probably throughout the day when most of the coal generation is down which is pretty much all the time these days.

Peak hours. The time you switch on your kettle, cook three pots on your electric stove and take a 30minutes shower. Round about that time. Morning peak: 5am-9am
Evening peak: 5pm-9pm

Stop burning Diesel, and go to permanent stage 4 loadshedding. Use that ungodly amount of money you are burning and sort out your existing plants. That being said, this will only work if you put the right people with the right experience in the right places, AND STOP STEALING MONEY.

Depends on the day I guess, on average it looked like it was during the morning and evening peaks, except from Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Stage 4 costs the country 950 million a day, so in about 9 days we'd be past the 8 billion?
