Eskom transmission grid nightmare

South Africa has a slew of independent power provider (IPP) projects set to come online, but Eskom can't meet the transmission build rate required for the country to benefit from these projects.

Speaking to Cape Talk, Krutham managing director Peter Attard Montalto said the power utility needs to build roughly 2,500km of transmission lines annually. However, it can only do around 300km per year.

This is a known global problem, everywhere where renewables are rolled out.

Powerships will fix this!

Just imagine: Every large city has one and Eskom wouldn't even need to roll out more than the 300 km that they can manage per annum.

Start at Pretoria, Midrand, Jhb, Bloemfontein - they need it more urgently.

Next: Waterships!

Let me guess they did not have the foresight and all the money was looted. Now when it's too late they can't do the job and need the private sector to bail them out again.

Besides all that they still want 600% increase in electricity.

But Germany does not have a problem.

They have had huge problems, because people don't want power lines messing up their view so they petition local governments to not build the infrastructure.

That problem is solved with underground lines but they are more expensive and take way longer to install, which has caused significant delays.

Germany is in the middle of an energy crisis right now what are you on about?

They're scraping the edge of recession seemingly due to shutting down their nuclear stations because greenies don't like them for some reason and the lag in renewables coming online. Now they eat Russian gas like it's going out of fashion. So green!

NIMBY attitudes are coming home to roost all over the planet basic.

I wants power, but no not with those ugly power lines everywhere.

You guys think Germany has a problem try looking at the shithole of SA.

At this point just let it crumble. The vota's will be hardest hit. I don't need eskom.
