Eskom CEO André de Ruyter in Washington D.C. to meet with World Bank

The head of South Africa’s state power utility held discussions with the World Bank as it explores options for transitioning from coal-fired stations to cleaner sources of energy.

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Andre de Ruyter traveled to the bank’s headquarters for the talks earlier this week. The utility supplies more than 90% of the country’s electricity, the bulk of it from coal.

Why do I get this feeling there is a fat loan coming to Eskom?

He hasnt connected any green power providers in South Africa to the Eskom grid, so why has he gone abroad to chat about it?

Internally staff have been told to put together plans for renewables, so Eskom can get all access to the money that was meant to move to cleaner energy sources, the whole carbon free initiative globally 2050 and etc.

Pushing other players out and leaving eskom with all that money , will probably not use it for any of those, but rather for fixing other things.

I'm sure you could build a really nice solar and wind installation for 8.5 billion dollars.

Pity that's probably not what will happen lmao

Beggars at it again.

Gotta love the Eskom management. They were hired to act as professional beggars at this point.

In the middle of a global financial crisis where other continents is having massive energy problems mostly due to their rush to "cleaner" energy and here we have South Africa exploring the same disaster agenda in the middle of constant load shedding.

We sure as sht have the bravest and brightest minds in charge of all our energy problems. *cough*

You mean this? I think he is there to help them fix their bomb craters which are tiny compared to our potholes...

Remember, its line our pockets and our families pockets first, then fix the power....

if they're able to con the world bank into another loan on empty promises i'll eat my hat.
