Eskom prepaid meter blunder

Following a week of South African prepaid meter users panicking to get their electricity meter updated, resulting in the death of a customer, Eskom has been criticised for not effectively communicating the deadline, The City Press reports.

Eskom and municipalities across South Africa have been scrambling to get their customers to recode a combined 11 million prepaid meters with the key revision number 2 (KRN 2) update in the past year.

It's so simple, you get 2 extra keys just enter them.

That it.

Sensational "journalism" at its best.

Are the two upgrade codes printed on every voucher if no then thats where the issue lies.

They got the 2 extra codes but they didnt know what it was for and threw it away.

Or entered it and the meter remained on KRN 1. What happened to me and countless others

Then:

1. The actual electricity they bought at that instance wouldn't work
2. Any future codes wouldn't work

They would have sorted that months ago. Impossible you were living in the dark for so long unless:

1. You buy R20000 vouchers at a time
2. You are stealing and bypassed your meter

The issue is this BS "R12 000 meter replacement" that has the ignoramus masses in a tuff. Just get the 2 keys again and renter them. Now or at any point in the future.

One would think the MyBB tech crowd is above that (The forum ppl, not the "journalists")

Lol. You are quite the gem full of knowledge.

1. The electricity I bought from capitec when I received the 2 extra codes DID load.

2. And every other voucher bought from Capitec since then has worked too.

I only realised yesterday when I saw the code (doing rounds on whatsapp) one could input on ESKOM (I am with municipality and not ESKOM) meters to check KRN level that my meter was still on KRN 1.

Any more gems of knowledge?

And there is no way to get 2 codes again. And trying to input those 2 codes now results in "token rejected".

I'm with eThekwini municipality, a real gem of a municipality. Fantastic service delivery, zero stealing. /s

If their 2 codes worked, then it points to a Layer 8 issue, dear "Prof"

I guess we’ll see tomorrow and the following days how well this update procedure worked…

The TID change has been common knowledge for at least three years! TV, radio and press, not to mention social media. Are these people cut off from the outside world? Twak in my opinion a story where there isn't one!
