Eskom criticised for not effectively communicating prepaid electricity meter update deadline

That classic South African mentality of "don't worry about it until its broken"

Gotta love it.

Yep. Go have a look at the ID thread and the resistance to getting a new card ID:

The TID change has been common knowledge for at least three years! TV, radio and press, not to mention social media. Are these people cut off from the outside world? Twak in my opinion a story where there isn't one!

The exact reason we don't need a state broadcaster. Nobody listens to it.

While I don't understand the resistance, at the very least I can understand that unless you have a bank branch that does this near you (of which there are very few) the prospect of having to go to Home Affairs to get it done is daunting compared to punching a few numbers into a meter ;)

Took me half an hour to get a card ID and new passport. I took a 100 km drive out to a rural home affairs office and made a leisure day trip of it.

I don't understand why anybody bypassing their prepaid meter would give 2 craps about this.

Are the two upgrade codes printed on every voucher if no then thats where the issue lies.

They got the 2 extra codes but they didnt know what it was for and threw it away.

I don't know about you, but when I receive two extra Takealot vouchers I always try them. I don't throw them away.

Ditto for airtime and electricity.

Human innate greediness dictates anyone of sound mind would have entered the extra keys "just to see what they scored"

Also the final "3rd" key is the actual electricity, and would NOT have worked without with using the 2 upgrade keys as the new power key relied on the meter update.

So at that very moments the light (or lack off) would have dawned on them.

Even if you had to go to home affairs and sit for awhile, it's once in a really really long time. I did mine 8 years ago already. It's not like your drivers license card which is every 5 years.

I can't believe this but they did do it sufficiently - possibly the only thing they've done almost properly since the anc took over.

Yup agreed, it's been years and years of them warning. I in fact actually went to City Power in 2021 to fix my meter in preparation for this

But....?

Or entered it and the meter remained on KRN 1. What happened to me and countless others

ProfA isn't exactly a reliable source, he shouts and screams a lot jumping up and down. I mean my meter has been upgraded since early this year, if you had an issue just re-try. Or then contact municipality or whatever.

In other words your typical MyBB-er ;)

Yes I had to deal with this situation this weekend with in-laws. D0m k0nte.
Anyway problem solved when I told them to go digging in the bin for the two codes...luckily they found them

But the electricity code shouldn't have worked?
