Eskom spends R3.2 billion a year on private security

South Africa's state-owned power utility spends R3.2 billion a year on private security to tackle sabotage and to protect its senior executives, TimesLive reports.

Eskom's general manager for security Karen Pillay butted heads with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) over the slow pace of prosecution for alleged sabotage cases at the power utility.

The ask is for the NPA to pursue ANC-sanctioned electricity saboteurs, whilst kingpins Zuma and Shaik are frolicking around KZN.

Seems awfully expensive (R3.2b) if they only able to catch 2 coal trucks drives, a supervisor, an oil thief, a janitor for stealing toilet paper.. in a year.

Probably cheaper to just pay R1.6b to thieves to NOT steal.

For all we know, the R3.2bn is well worth it, and this lot are quietly preventing a whole heap ton more sabotage.. (granted I know thats bullshyte, and some of them are involved in it)

Plus there is precedent for that.

Remember when Mandela asked the crimbo to stop for the duration of the world cup so as to not cause a bad perception with tourists?

Also remember the group that wanted to give Zuma R1billion to just kindly fo and stop ruining the country and further?

Somehow I doubt it will work tho, there's as much the desire to exact political control or **** up the workings of this country to make it ungovernable as the desire to gain financially.

How about they reveal what these senior execs do to make them so valuable to protect?

I'll wait...once we've had zero load shedding for a minimum of three consecutive weeks.

The issues is that they only catching a few small fry.

Brian Molefe has still not paid back the R10 million, says Eskom's pension fund

But they are terminally ill remember, can throw old and weak men in jail, the golf course and a fire pool is the best way to handle them.
