Excellent.

I wonder if CoJ would be willing to take over supplying Soweto...

Hmmmm TBH no complaints here, if you don't pay you don't get simple.

I feel sorry for those who do pay, but that doesn't seem to be the majority in this case... To those who do pay, I do feel your pain however those prepaid meters will help as then each would be monitored and if they didn't pay that person would get cut off.

We will have to see how this goes.

On Thursday, fifteen people were arrested for public violence in Orlando West after protesters threatened to burn down a well-known restaurant...so that Eskom takes them seriously
Maybe now the residence of Soweto will take Eskom seriously.

“The decision to leave Soweto residents without electricity for this prolonged period of time is insensitive, inhumane and smacks of unbridled arrogance,” said Mfikoe.

Really? Me . . . and the many that actually DO pay for electricity couldn't give a flying fsck!

maybe eskom should start going to all the informal settlements and dismantling all the cables that are on the lamp posts too.............

If you start something make sure you finish it, don't do it selectively and halfway

So is there power still cut off?

Not sure... But considering it was only certain sections, I'm thinking this was just the first time they've ever been load shed like the rest of us and a big stink is now being made out of it

Let's hope the people go on a rampage and burn down all their electricity infrastructure, then they can feel how it was to live prior to the colonialists.

Seems they are talking about 10 hour outages so far on twitter.

Seriously???
Is this the first time they have experienced load shedding?
Can someone clarify that for me.

I was only speculating. To the best of my knowledge(working with and speaking to people who live in townships over the years), I don't believe they do get 'shed', no hard evidence for it though. This could however be a discontinuation of service due to large unpaid bills. We'd have to wait for a full report

"The City of Johannesburg will constructively engage Eskom to find a speedy, lasting and amicable resolution to this impasse.

“We believe that collectively we can find a middle ground and establish a working relationship that will ensure that this unfortunate incident does not recur,” Mfikoe added.
Doesn't seem like much of an impasse for Eskom. Switch the power back on when people start paying. There is no middle ground. Pay for electricity like everyone else does you fsckers.

If it is true that Soweto has never been shed before then that is disgusting. People that actually pay for their electricity are getting cut for 4-10 hrs a day and these fsckers never get cut? Bullschit.

I'd say its possibly a case of majority of illegal connections never get load shed due to how they are connected to the grid, don't know the ins and outs of how they are wired and from where, but I'd say its possible that although a substation may be off for load shedding, they are still getting power via the way they are connected?? Again, just speculating, would need people with knowledge to input

IE, They may be officially on schedules and getting shed, but possibly still getting power(if that makes sense?)

I think it irresponsible that the Johannesburg municipality sided against Eskom. They are exacerbating the demand for free services.
